Overall Responsibility:
The position emphasizes technical breadth, curiosity, and strong communication skills. You will play a key role in ensuring that both customer and internal performance, reliability, and safety goals are fully understood and integrated throughout the design process.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Lead the planning, design, development, integration, and test of hardware and software solutions for new products, features, and demonstrations, working with minimal supervision.
- Liaise between mechanical, hardware, and software teams, ensuring accurate translation of specifications and design intent, and serve as a technical point of contact for both customers and development teams.
- Capture, analyze, and manage system requirements, explaining technical details to software developers, unraveling design tradeoffs, and anticipating downstream effects.
- Prepare and deliver clear technical documentation, engineering analyses, customer presentations, and system-level overviews.
- Mentor other team members, promote technical innovations, and contribute to process improvements, with the goal of improving product quality and project outcomes.
- Maintain up-to-date expertise in relevant areas of mechanical design, embedded systems, and systems engineering best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related hardware-centric engineering field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in systems engineering or design of complex hardware/software systems, with a demonstrable ability to work across disciplinary lines.
- Significant experience translating mechanical system requirements into actionable software and electronics tasks.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to present technical content effectively to internal development teams and external customers.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to remain at a computer for significant periods.
- Frequent interaction with team members, customers, and partners.
- Ability to travel as project needs dictate.
