POSITION SUMMARY

The Veterinary Assistant supports the veterinary care team in providing safe, compassionate, and

efficient care for patients throughout their visit or stay. This role assists with examinations, diagnostics,

treatments, procedures, patient handling, laboratory work, and recovery while helping maintain a clean,

organized, and well-prepared clinical environment.

Through attentive patient care, strong teamwork, and attention to detail, the Veterinary Assistant helps

create a positive experience for patients and clients while supporting the effectiveness of the care team.

This individual contributes by anticipating needs, maintaining high standards of safety and cleanliness,

communicating observations, and helping ensure patients receive thoughtful care throughout every

stage of their veterinary experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Patient Care and Medical Support

• Support patient care during examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures

• Safely handle, hold, and restrain patients during examinations, treatments, and other

procedures

• Assist with patient preparation, recovery, monitoring, feeding, weighing, and exercise for

hospitalized or boarding pets

• Observe and communicate changes in patient behavior, condition, or overall health to the

appropriate care team members

• Help ensure patients remain comfortable, safe, and appropriately cared for throughout their

visit or stay

Laboratory and Clinical Support

• Assist with laboratory procedures by preparing and handling blood, urine, fecal, and other

diagnostic samples under appropriate supervision

• Support diagnostic and treatment-related tasks to help the veterinary team provide accurate

and timely patient care

• Prepare supplies, equipment, and treatment areas to ensure the care team is ready to provide

effective patient care

Clinic Environment and Safety

• Maintain organized and ready-to-use examination, treatment, hospitalization, and surgical areas

• Clean and disinfect cages, examination tables, treatment surfaces, and other clinical areas in

accordance with established protocols

• Clean, prepare, and sterilize medical instruments and equipment as required

• Follow established protocols for infection control, safety, sanitation, and patient handling

Client and Team Support

• Collaborate with the veterinary care team to support coordinated, compassionate patient care

• Contribute to a welcoming experience for pets and clients by helping make veterinary visits

comfortable and less stressful

• Support front-desk and administrative functions as needed, including answering phones,

scheduling appointments, and maintaining accurate patient records

• Communicate effectively with team members to support continuity of care and a well-

coordinated client and patient experience

Growth and Professional Development

• Participate in paid on-the-job training designed to build knowledge and clinical competency

• Benefit from professional mentorship and coaching from experienced members of the

veterinary care team

• Develop and expand clinical skills through hands-on experience and ongoing learning

opportunities

• Take on additional responsibilities and pursue opportunities for professional advancement as

skills, knowledge, and experience develop

Requirements:
  • Two + years of experience in the veterinary field.
  • Team work mentality
  • Ability to handle the physical nature of the work with animals
