Major Gifts Officer

Medical and Health Sciences Foundation - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (26005883)

The Division of Philanthropic & Alumni Engagement (PAE) builds relationships with donors, alumni, and constituents to advance the missions of the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC. Through philanthropy and alumni engagement, PAE supports innovation, research, education, and patient care.

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center seeks a Major Gifts Officer (MGO) to develop and implement fundraising strategies that increase philanthropic support for cancer research and clinical care initiatives. Reporting to the Executive Director of Development, the MGO will identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects and donors while advancing the Center's fundraising priorities.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of 100+ major gift donors and prospects with capacities beginning at $100,000, including seven-figure prospects.
  • Achieve annual fundraising goals beginning at $1 million, with growth expectations over time.
  • Develop and execute donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans.
  • Conduct donor visits, meetings, and engagement activities to build lasting relationships.
  • Identify and qualify new major gift prospects.
  • Collaborate with physicians, researchers, clinicians, faculty, and volunteer leaders to connect donor interests with funding opportunities.
  • Prepare proposals, stewardship reports, donor correspondence, and other fundraising materials.
  • Maintain accurate records, donor strategies, and activity reports in Salesforce Affinaquest CRM.
  • Support fundraising events, meetings, and regional travel as needed.
Collaboration

The MGO will work closely with senior leaders, including the Director and Chairman of UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, University advancement leadership, faculty, researchers, clinicians, and volunteer leaders. The position will also engage members of the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center Council and other key volunteers in fundraising efforts.

Job Summary

Plans, implements, and manages fundraising programs for assigned area of responsibility; develops proposals and coordinates fundraising efforts within the department; and identifies, cultivates, stewards, and solicits current and potential donors. Collaborates with executive leadership, leadership, and faculty on strategic initiatives and campaign management. Crafts major donor recognition collateral and recruits and leads volunteer solicitors.


Essential Functions
  • Cumulatively raise at lease $1,000,000 each fiscal year from assigned clinical divisions through direct cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship; cultivate relationships with clinical physicians, researchers, surgeons, and other medical personnel; and design comprehensive solicitation programs that generate financial support for Center goals.
  • Visit prospects face-to-face; accompany volunteers and internal leaders to prospect meetings; prepare proposals following cultivation meetings; provide follow-through via successful completion of solicitations; and develop and implement fundraising concepts that support divisional fundraising needs.
  • Serve as a primary advisor to identify and cultivate leadership annual gifts from individuals by conducting meetings, making presentations to constituent groups, developing informational materials, and performing related activities.
  • Train on and regularly use the Salesforce Affinaquest CRM database to document fundraising contacts, conversations, proposals, and strategies.

Light - Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid: Combination of On-Campus and Remote work as determined by the department.
