Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Hickory Treatment Centers

Department: Nursing

Direct Report To: Chief Nursing Officer

About the Role:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurses (RNs) and the physicians in a psychiatric hospital setting. The LPN supports patients with mental health needs by administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring a safe and supportive treatment environment.

Under the immediate supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer, the LPN will provide medical care for patients will perform comprehensive physical health assessments on all intakes and formulate a plan of care that includes physician orders, medications, education, and treatments

Job Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program with current, active LPN license
  • At least 2 years prior experience as an LPN preferably with hospital and behavioral health experience
  • Certified BLS provider obtained within I month prior to hire.
  • Ability to maintain strict client confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
  • Strong assessment, observation, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to remain Cahn and compassionate in high-stress situations
  • Knowledge of psychiatric nursing principles, de-escalation techniques and crisis management
  • Professional appearance, aptitude, and attitude
  • Computer literacy and ability to use an EMR.
  • Ability to understand the requirements Of the clientele
Key Responsibilities:

Direct Patient Care & Clinical Monitoring

  • Provide direct nursing care to psychiatric patients, including monitoring physical and mental health status.
  • Observe patients closely for changes in behavior, mood, or physical condition and report findings to the RN and physician.
  • Assist in implementing individualized treatment plans developed by the clinical team.
  • Participate in therapeutic interactions and support patient treatment goals.

Medication Administration & Nursing Practice

  • Administer prescribed medications and accurately document administration in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Follow nursing best practices and established clinical procedures.
  • Accurately document all patient care activities, observations, and interventions.

Patient Safety & Crisis Intervention

  • Perform routine safety checks and patient rounds, including monitoring suicide and elopement precautions.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to psychiatric and medical emergencies.
  • Utilize crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques when responding to patients in distress.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Communication

  • Participate in shift reports, treatment team meetings, and interdisciplinary discussions.
  • Communicate patient status and clinical concerns to the appropriate members of the treatment team.
  • Provide updates to patients and families while respecting confidentiality and patient rights.

Admissions, Transfers & Continuity of Care

  • Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges to support continuity of care.
  • Ensure accurate communication and documentation throughout transitions in care.

Compliance, Documentation & Patient Rights

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation.
  • Follow hospital policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations related to psychiatric care.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, infection control standards, and nursing best practices.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and uphold patient rights throughout the delivery of care.
Compensation:

$35 - $40 hourly
