Job Description

Senior Technical Writer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Technical Writer based in Netherlands.

This is a senior technical documentation role embedded within a highly technical C2 engineering environment. You will turn complex engineering knowledge into clear, accurate, and actionable documentation for operators, field engineers, customers, support teams, and developers. Your work will cover software deployment, observability, troubleshooting, onboarding, upgrades, recovery, and operational procedures. You’ll collaborate closely with engineering, platform, product, security, and field teams to capture and validate technical knowledge. The role combines strong writing and information architecture with hands-on technical understanding of cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and operational tooling. Your documentation will help users operate complex systems more independently while improving release readiness and reducing avoidable engineering support.

Accountabilities
  • Create clear product guides explaining C2 products, their purpose, appropriate use cases, operational workflows, and safe operating procedures.
  • Write and maintain deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, onboarding, upgrade, rollback, and recovery procedures.
  • Document cloud deployment workflows, including prerequisites, configuration, validation, handover steps, and common failure scenarios.
  • Develop observability documentation covering dashboards, metrics, normal and degraded system states, troubleshooting approaches, and escalation paths.
  • Build symptom-based runbooks covering connectivity, telemetry, infrastructure, Kubernetes, dependent services, and other common operational issues.
  • Document UxV onboarding workflows from access setup and registration through configuration, pairing, health checks, and readiness validation.
  • Maintain release notes, compatibility information, known limitations, upgrade guidance, and other documentation associated with product changes.
  • Work closely with engineering, platform, product, field engineering, operators, support, and security teams to extract, validate, and communicate accurate technical information.
  • Establish and maintain a practical documentation lifecycle covering ownership, review responsibilities, status tracking, versioning, review cadence, and internal versus customer-ready content.
  • Validate documentation through technical reviews, execution of documented procedures, user testing, and feedback from operational teams.
  • Ensure documentation is incorporated into release readiness and updated following significant product or system changes.
  • Create structured documentation that enables technically capable users who were not involved in building a system to deploy, operate, troubleshoot, and upgrade supported environments independently.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in technical writing, developer documentation, SRE or operations documentation, solutions engineering, or a comparable technical discipline.
  • Experience documenting complex software, cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, robotics, IoT, or other technically demanding and mission-critical environments.
  • Proven ability to produce user guides, deployment documentation, troubleshooting runbooks, observability references, upgrade procedures, and operational documentation.
  • Working knowledge of cloud platforms, Linux, containers or Kubernetes, CI/CD, APIs, networking, logs, metrics, and Grafana or comparable observability tools.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems and the ability to document dependencies, system behavior, failure modes, operational risks, and safe procedures.
  • Ability to turn incomplete, technical, or conflicting engineering input into accurate, structured, and reviewable documentation.
  • Experience validating documentation through hands-on execution, user testing, technical review, or similar methods.
  • Strong information architecture skills and disciplined approaches to documentation lifecycle management, versioning, ownership, and maintenance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineers, technical users, and operational teams.
  • Strong ownership and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently while coordinating input from busy technical stakeholders.
  • Awareness of customer-specific, access-controlled, export-sensitive, operationally sensitive, or otherwise restricted technical information.
  • Experience with documentation for defence, robotics, UxV, C2/C4ISR, regulated, high-assurance, air-gapped, or similarly demanding environments is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, ArgoCD, K3s, cloud deployments, observability stacks, incident response workflows, or field engineering environments is a plus.
  • Experience creating documentation for field engineers, operators, customer engineers, support teams, or other technical users is desirable.
  • Familiarity with telemetry, vehicle onboarding, mission systems, UxV operations, or constrained and low-connectivity environments is beneficial.
  • Experience building documentation processes or systems from the ground up is a plus.
  • Ability to create effective diagrams, decision trees, tables, screenshots, templates, and technical examples.
  • Comfortable using command-line tools and following technical procedures in controlled test environments.
Benefits
  • Opportunity to work on complex, technically demanding systems with direct operational impact.
  • Senior-level ownership of documentation practices within a C2 engineering environment.
  • Close collaboration with engineering, platform, product, security, field engineering, support, and operational teams.
  • Opportunity to establish and improve documentation processes and standards from the ground up.
  • Exposure to advanced cloud, distributed systems, observability, robotics, and autonomous systems technologies.
  • International working environment with teams operating across multiple regions.
  • Opportunity to contribute to systems where clarity, reliability, and operational readiness are critical.
  • Scope to influence how complex technical knowledge is shared across engineering, field, customer, and operational teams.
