Job Summary

The Staff Registered Nurse provides patient care for all ages in compliance with policies/procedures and the standards of professional nursing practice as defined by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas, in addition to participating in and maintaining quality, cost effectiveness and patient relations. In this environment, the Staff Registered Nurse is expected to assist doctors in the treatment of patients experiencing critical injury, allergic reactions and/or trauma

Essential Job Functions

1. Responds to emergencies, assists doctors in emergency medical care and ensures a high quality of nursing standards are maintained.
2. Quickly assesses patient needs by performing physical assessments and psych-social assessments on all patients and performs reassessments as per departmental policy. Ability to prioritize needs based on assessments and assigns the five (5) level triage categories to ensure timely and appropriate care to patients.
3. Treats critical injuries, allergic reactions and trauma.
4. Performs minor medical procedures under the direction of a physician
5. Basic medical responsibilities include cleaning wounds, drawing blood, and ensuring necessary tests are run.
6. Supervises ER Techs, Radiology/CT Techs and other support personnel assigned to the Emergency Department.
7. Maintains current knowledge of medications and using the five (5) rights of medication administration.
8. Communicates with patients, families, physicians and other departmental personnel in a courteous and professional manner.
9. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Education, Experience & Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
• Minimum of one (1) year in an Emergency Room or Critical Care environment.
• Required current certifications include:
• Texas Licensure with the State Board of Nurse Examiners of Texas
• BCLS/CPR certification for Healthcare Provider
• ACLS certification
• PALS or ENPC certification
• Ability to wok under high pressure
• Excellent attention to detail
• Good organizational skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Education, Experience & Skills

• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification preferred
• Experience at a Director level in a free­standing Emergency Center preferred.
• Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point)
• Knowledge of Human and Financial Resources and compliance laws for the State of Texas
