GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Studio coaches will lead small group tutoring sessions (capped at 6), providing reading and writing support for students in their first-year writing classes. The position does not require session preparation or grading, but it does require coordination with and reporting to the primary classroom instructor throughout the semester. Each studio will require an estimated 20-25 hours over the course of the semester, and tutors may be assigned more than one studio section.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Studio coaches report to and are evaluated by the Studio Coordinator based on the support they provide to the students and the information they provide to the ENWR 100 instructor.
SUPERVISION EXCERCISED:
Studio coaches report weekly attendance and level of participation of students to the ENWR 100 instructor.
EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as a writing, and reading coach for up to six students per studio, all from the same class, from the first week of classes.
- Check in weekly with the ENWR 100 classroom instructor for each studio to stay informed about classroom instruction and discuss any particular requests the instructor may have.
- Submit a weekly report on attendance and participation for each student to the instructor, with a copy sent to the Studio Coordinator.
- Meet with the classroom instructor (virtually or face-to-face) to discuss progress and concerns near the middle of the semester and again during finals week.
- Hold two office hours specifically for studio students during the first two days of exam week to provide additional support.
- Attend an orientation/training in late summer and during winter break meet with the Studio Coordinator at least once during the semester to discuss performance.
Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- M.A. or M.F.A. in English.
- Experience teaching writing courses for first-year students at a state university or college, particularly introductory level writing courses.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Preferred experience in tutoring first-year writing students in college.
- Preference will be given to tutors who have served as instructors for Framingham State's first-year writing courses.
Additional Information:
This is a part-time non-benefited, contract position, not to exceed 18 hours per week. The scheduled hours are flexible, depending upon program needs. The pay rate is $48.50 per hour.
