The Pediatric Program Director will work under the direct supervision of the AVP of Nursing and CNO to support and assist the nursing staff at the bedside with education and leadership around the management of pediatric patients. The Director will be responsible for leadership in the level II nursery, pediatric floor and the education of nurses caring for pediatric patients throughout the hospital. They will be an expert clinician in pediatrics and have good interpersonal skills, desire to teach, lead and support to assure the highest quality of care to all the pediatric patients within the hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities:

- High-risk patient rounding by actual patient assessment and brief chart reviews. Touch base with parents and caregivers.
- Touch base with nursing staff who are on orientation to review patients, educate staff and offer guidance and support regarding pediatric care
- Development and updating of hospital policies and practices to support pediatric clinical care at the bedside
- Interact with providers and bedside nurses to assure timely management of pediatric patients
- Responds to all rapid responses, code 7, code crimson and other pediatric emergency responses during their shift
- Model and support expert nursing practice at the bedside
- Identifies needs of off shift nursing and develops plans to assist in meeting these needs
- Maintains leadership oversight and direction for the Level II nursery. Responsible for scheduling, budgetary practices, education and quality metrics for the Pediatrics and Level II Nursery
- Responsible for developing, collecting and reporting quality metrics for pediatric/neonatal care within the hospital setting
- Responsible for Baby Friendly initiative
- Participates in external neonatal and pediatric workgroups when requested
- Participates in education for PALS and other standard pediatric content for staff in areas where applicable
- Develops relationships in the Emergency Department, PACU, Nursery, and pediatrics to foster staff growth and accountability
- Functions as part of the Leadership Team in supporting the mission and vision of the organization
- Performs other duties as required
Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Must be able to reasonably make appropriate judgment in communications and actions with patients, physicians, other associates, outside agencies, and vendors.
- Must be able to work independently to maintain daily operations of program and work to make enhancements as needed to assure the highest quality program and content.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE/TECHNICAL/OTHER:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program. BSN required, advanced degree preferred. Minimum of 3 years of pediatric nursing required.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of pediatric nursing
- Certification/Licensure: BLS & ACLS (or ACLS & PALS) required
- Software/Hardware: Experience with Meditech preferred. Ability to use Microsoft office products preferred.
