GENERAL SUMMARY:

Manages clinical staff and operations and/or discipline specific (PT/OT/SLP) patient care activities at a designated site in the Rehabilitation Services department. Performs direct patient care as needs of the department dictate. Acts as a staff resource for general department or discipline specific clinical questions.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Provides clinical supervision and mentoring of on-site clinical staff and assists with coordination and support of clerical, student and volunteer personnel.

3. *Performs all functions of the job descriptions for Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist or Speech Language Pathologist per credentials and designated area.

4. *Coordinates daily work assignments and scheduling for staff on site.

5. Recommends appropriate staffing levels to Rehabilitation Services management (Director, Manager).

6. *Participates in the maintenance and development of department staff including interviewing, hiring, training and discipline of employees in conjunction with Human Resources as designated by Rehab Services management.

7. *Orients new staff/students/volunteers to designated clinic or discipline.

8. *Oversees competency testing and training for all staff.

9. Assists Director, Manager with budget process formulation, implementation and monitoring.

10. *Completes and/or provides input into performance appraisals for staff within established timeframe and format as designated by Rehab Services management.

11. *Collaborates with members of the Rehab Services Leadership Team in planning and presenting designated staff meetings.

12. *Develops positive and collaborative relationships with employees, rehabilitation leaders, medical center staff, physicians and outside contacts.

13. Identifies opportunities for improvements and participates in processes to make those improvements.

14. *Assumes Rehabilitation Manager responsibilities as delegated in their absence.

15. Assists with the development and presentation of department continuing education programs.

16. Participates in the development and revision of procedures.

17. *Utilizes effective communication, writing and listening skills to enhance all staff’s ability to provide satisfaction to our patients, physicians and employees through employee and patient rounding and program review/development.

18. Assists with coordination of community education opportunities for all staff.

19. *Communicates and complies with existing policies and procedures and assists in implementing new policies and procedures with employees.

20. Assists in investigation of incidents including client complaints, corrected reports and quality issues as well as implementation of corrective actions to sustain accuracy, precision and efficiency.

21. Supports programs to improve processes and control costs to gain efficiencies and quality within Rehab Services and the Medical Center.

22. Performs quality measurement implementation and monitoring; maintains standards for regulatory and accreditation bodies.

23. Ensures appropriate equipment and supply management in work areas.

24. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

25. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

26. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patient’s growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification and mandatory education and competencies.

2. Knowledge of the theory and practice of designated therapy discipline.

3. Knowledge of statistics and research design sufficient to understand and interpret the professional literature.

4. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

5. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

6. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes.

7. Ability to clinically supervise, appropriately delegate responsibility and maintain State and Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) required supervision criteria for assigned clinicians, support staff and students.

8. Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and work as a team member.

9. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, medical staff, volunteer and ancillary departments.

10. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment related to changing patient needs including working with patients with acute, subacute, chronic and complex disease processes and those who are dying.

11. Ability to proficiently and effectively evaluate, assess and treat a variety of patient population groups, including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.

12. Ability to treat and work with patients of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

13. Ability to practice proper body mechanics to ensure personal and customer/patient safety.

14. Ability to counsel and comfort patients and families regarding therapy procedure being performed.

15. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.

16. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

17. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

18. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from a Rehabilitation discipline-specific program with current licensure in the State of Nebraska required. Minimum of two (2) years clinical experience in therapy discipline required.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

(Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)

(DOT) – Characterized as medium work requiring exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
