About This Position
King County Library System is looking to hire a Library Page Assistant to support an organized and welcoming environment at the Shoreline Library. This library is located in the Alder Region of King County libraries.
The Library Page Assistant is a customizable position for Supported Employment applicants and will have a customized job description. The successful candidate could perform work that involves the handling and shelving of library materials in a public-facing environment.
This position is through King County Library System's Supported Employment program. The recruitment for this position is open to all qualified applicants who are active clients of Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA), and who currently receive and will maintain long-term employment support from a County-contracted Employment Service Provider.
Schedule:
The schedule for this position will be determined with the candidate at time of hire. The Library Page Assistant can work no more than 15 hours a week.
Potential times the Library Page Assistant would be working are Monday through Friday any time during library open hours.
Shoreline Library is open:
Monday, Thursday, Friday: 10 am - 6 pm
Tuesday, Wednesday: 12 pm - 8 pm

Example Duties:
- Alphanumerically shelve and retrieve library materials.
- Review shelves to assure that they are organized and materials are properly shelved.
- Maintain library materials through labeling, stamping, and sanitizing.
- Prepare library for opening and/or closing by performing such assignments as replenishing supplies (e.g. pencils, pads, printer and photocopy paper), straightening chairs and tables, and/or picking up loose materials.
- Greeting and referring the public to other library staff.
- Operate library office equipment such as printers/photocopiers.
- Pushing and pulling carts; unloading boxes.
- Clean and prepare rooms for meetings.
Communication:
The position has frequent contact with other KCLS staff members and some contact with the public. Contacts seldom contain confidential or sensitive information.
Initiative:
Positions at this level operate with a high degree of supervision, usually function from a clear set of operating processes or procedures, and have work closely reviewed. Little to no judgment and decision-making is required. The only decisions required are those relating to minor aspects of own position.
Education and Experience:
- Any combination of education and experience which allows the successful performance of the job.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Use interpersonal skills and to use common courtesy and tact when dealing with staff members and patrons.
- Read English and sort accurately in alphanumeric order.
- Understand and follow verbal and/or written instruction.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly using hands to grasp objects and lift individual books, frequently required to stand and walk and reach at all levels with hands and arms, frequently repetitive to shelve books and up to frequently will bend. The employee will frequently lift/carry 3 pounds, occasionally up to 20 pounds and seldom up to 35 pounds. Will occasionally push/pull carts using moderate force and frequently push/pulls with light force to straighten books.
