About This Position


Environmental Engineer 9-P11:
This position conducts engineering reviews and provides technical and regulatory support for the Water Resources Division’s (WRD) Great Lakes Program, Coastal Management Program, and other Water Resources Program activities that relate to coastal processes, coastal erosion and flooding, integrated coastal zone management, and other regulatory and technical topics. There reviews are required by Part 301, Inland Lakes and Streams; Part 323, Shorelands Protection and Management; Part 325, Great Lakes Submerged Lands; and Part 353, Sand Dunes Protection and Management, of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended (NREPA). This position also provides technical and regulatory support and program development assistance for the WRD’s Field Operations Sections.

Position Description

Environmental Engineer Licensed 12:
This position is the recognized resource for conducting engineering reviews and providing technical and regulatory support for Water Resources Division’s (WRD) Great Lakes Program activities that relate to coastal processes, coastal erosion and flooding, integrated coastal zone management, and other regulatory and technical topics, and conducts similar reviews for the Coastal Management Program and other Water Resources Program. These reviews are required by Part 301, Inland Lakes and Streams; Part 323, Shorelands Protection and Management; Part 325, Great Lakes Submerged Lands; and Part 353, Sand Dunes Protection and Management, of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended (NREPA). This position also provides technical and regulatory support and program development assistance for the WRD’s Field Operations Sections.

This position uses thorough knowledge of scientific practices and principals of environmental engineering to review engineering designs and advise staff on whether a permit application should be approved, denied, or modified. The engineer in this position is expected to review the work of other professional licensed engineers. This position reviews projects under their engineer license and is held to the standards of the Michigan Board of Professional Engineers.

Position Description
Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering.

Experience

Environmental Engineer 9
No specific type or amount is required.

Environmental Engineer 10
One year of professional environmental engineering experience in the protection and improvement of land and water resources, occupational health, or air quality equivalent to an Environmental Engineer 9.

Environmental Engineer P11
Two years of professional environmental engineering experience in the protection and improvement of land and water resources, occupational health, or air quality equivalent to an Environmental Engineer, including one year equivalent to Environmental Engineer 10.

Environmental Engineer Licensed 12
Three years of professional environmental engineering experience in the protection and improvement of land and water resources, occupational health, or air quality equivalent to an Environmental Engineer, including one year equivalent to an Environmental Engineer P11.

NOTE: This level requires Professional Engineer Licensure

The work location of this position will be Lansing, MI. However, the selected candidate may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule (combination of remote and in-person). Employees approved for schedules that include remote work must complete that work within Michigan. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed. When working remote, employees must use a designated workspace that is safe and professionally appropriate, allows for privacy, minimizes distractions, and includes secure internet access.
