CPLC manages the Hummingbird Project for unaccompanied minors in need of culturally competent whole wellness care. CPLC has 53 years of demonstrated quality experience servicing the community as a high-trust organization. Each minor in our care is case-managed, educated, and receives healthcare and legal services in a trauma-informed care system. POSITION SUMMARY
The Teacher is responsible for the planning, implementation, and administration of curriculum that is developed and facilitated for Unaccompanied Children (UC) in compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. We are classified as an essential business by the state because the services we provide are critical to the well-being of thousands of children and families. The Teacher has a variety of responsibilities, including, but not limited to:

  • Design lesson plans for UC of mixed ages for the purpose of meeting individual physical disabilities, learning style, and pace of learning 

  • Teach science, social studies, math, reading, writing, and English as a second language according to Texas Education Agency program policies and administrative regulations 

  • Observe and address challenging behaviors and redirect them to a more positive behavior 

  • Complete and prepare teaching materials and related reports, accurate documentation, files, records, lesson plans, etc

  • Assist with collaborative efforts and activities with the interdisciplinary and treatment teams to ensure all UC are receiving quality services needed to meet their individual treatment and behavior plans 

  • Building and maintain cooperative, culturally competent relationships with all levels of teammates, leadership, students, parents, and community partners.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
  • Must maintain valid driver’s license and met company standards for insurability.
  • Successful completion of the appropriate teacher training through an approved program
  • Valid Generalist (EC-4) or other teacher certification required by the state of Texas
  • Minimum of one year of classroom teaching experience preferred
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) with the ability to fluently converse and write in Spanish (based on student population).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification: English as a Second Language
  • 2 years’ experience in Education

Other Competencies

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement curriculum 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the classroom and work well under pressure 
  • Ability to build a positive rapport with children, parents/guardians, and team members 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) 
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate professionally, interact with all levels of management in a clear and concise manner 
  • Prepare quality well-written documents, reports, and correspondence
