Transport Messenger at CareWell Health – East Orange, New Jersey

This position is responsible for supporting the following non-clinical positions – Linen Clerk.

Patient Transport Aide is responsible for performing physical transportation and movement of patients to and from various units, rooms, and Imaging modalities. To provide safe transport of patients, personal effects, requisitions, specimens, charts, and miscellaneous items and assist with patient transport activities as required. To assistance in navigating patients to/from various units, and departments within CareWell Health. To assist as support in Linen distribution and collection of soiled linen.

Essential Functions

• Responsible to support the patient care teams in transporting patients to and from designated areas in safe, timely, and friendly manner.
• Support the patient care teams with transporting equipment, including oxygen to and from units.
• Maintains, cleans, and stores all transport used equipment.
• Transporters must identify patients to make sure they're taking the right patient for the right test and keep nursing personnel updated on their patient's identification.
• Ability to cover dispatch desk and have some computer skills.
• Maintains a scheduled work assignment and can work well independently or as a team.
• Is able to perform under high stress situations and can physically maneuver patients and equipment.
• Must have excellent communication skills to interact with patients and teams.
• Must be physically able to lift, push, pull minimum 50lbs.
• Must be physically able to assist a patient to the standing position and safely use assistive devices. (i.e., lifts, slide boards, walkers, canes)
• Demonstrate safe patient handling using proper body mechanics in lifting, transferring, and positioning patients
• Verify two hospital approved identifiers for patient identification on each transport
• Clean and disinfect transport equipment on all patient and transporter contact surfaces before and after each patient use
• Demonstrate proper hand hygiene before and after patient contact. Ability to read and comprehend infection control postings.
• Follow proper oxygen handling
• Maintain patient’s strict confidentiality (HIPAA) of all information and all matters concerning patients, physicians, and hospital personnel

Minimum Education/Certifications
High School Diploma

Minimum Work Experience
One year experience preferred

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Must be willing to work holidays, weekends and provide additional coverage as needed
