GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Take the lead in safeguarding Wyoming's future as the State Hazard Mitigation Officer in Cheyenne! In this pivotal role, you'll spearhead the Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) program, working closely with local communities to develop innovative projects that reduce risk and strengthen resilience. You'll be the go-to expert, providing technical guidance and managing critical statewide mitigation plans. When emergencies strike, you'll step up as a 24/7 Duty Officer on rotation, playing a key role in Wyoming's disaster response and helping protect the people and places that make our state unique. Drive Mitigation Projects: Collaborate with local communities to identify risks and develop innovative mitigation projects that protect lives and property.
Be a Trusted Advisor: Provide expert guidance and technical support to local jurisdictions on grant applications and effective mitigation strategies.
Lead Planning Efforts: Manage the completion and renewal of the State Hazard Mitigation Plan and oversee eight regional mitigation plans, ensuring contractors meet deadlines and expectations.
Shape Risk Assessment Strategies: Play a key role in Wyoming's Threat and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (THIRA), helping to identify and address the state's most pressing hazards.
Be a First Responder in Action: Serve as an on-call Duty Officer on a rotating 24/7 schedule and actively support operations in the State Response Coordination Center during emergencies and disasters.
PREFERENCES:
Experience with natural resource mitigation projects.
Experience with project management, including group facilitation.
Experience with emergency management functions.
KNOWLEDGE:
Emergency Management and disaster response and recovery concepts
Working knowledge of Microsoft software including Word, Microsoft Excel, and Powerpoint
Working knowledge of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 2 and 44
Working knowledge of State & Federal Statutes related to emergency management
Natural Hazards experienced in Wyoming
Natural Resources and/or Environmental Project Development
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

- The agency may require FEMA courses.
- Successful applicants for employment must pass a limited criminal background investigation.
- Additional certifications and/or licenses may be required by the agency.
