About This Position

Position Description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Research Lab Tech:

Request and receive tissue samples from outside pathology facilities.

Send tissue blocks to the vendor to have slides cut and ship these slides to the studys lab.

Label, receive, and process samples (blood, urine, tissue etc.) for clinical trials per specific protocol guidelines to include logging samples into and out of the department.

Record all data in specified forms per clinical trial (paper and electronic) with accuracy and responsibility.

Enter data into a departmental database.

Recognize discrepancies in the data on the samples and coordinate with the nursing staff to correct.

Organize and store all reagents according to safety instructions.

Maintain equipment and a clean and orderly lab environment.

Restock lab consumables at the end of the day.

Manage inventory of clinical trial supplies and kits as well as departmental supplies.

Administrative functions include filing, scanning, copying, and emailing work documents.

Ship or store samples as per protocol before the end of the shift.

Prepare all collection tubes and aliquots for the next days clinic with accuracy and responsibility.

BioBank Lab Tech:

Collect, label, and record biological specimens from human tissues.

Identify and obtain necessary consent from patients at various clinics in the area.

Deliver and collect tissue kits from various hospitals and clinics.

Use molecular biology techniques with human tissues to establish cancer tumor models.

Prepare cell culture medias and maintain cancer cell lines including spheroid cultures.

Assist with ordering and maintaining supply of inventories.

Maintain written documentation and subsequent data entry into various databases.

Basic knowledge of computers with Microsoft Word and Excel

Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Bilingual (English/Spanish)

IATA Dangerous Goods handlingif not previously certified will train after hire.

Comfortable using Microsoft Word and Excel and databases

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelors degree in the Sciences. Certification is not required.

1 year of prior lab and sample processing and shipping experience

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.

Requires sitting and standing for extensive periods of time.

Occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 40 lbs.

Must have vision and hearing that are effectively functional with or without corrective measures.
