TITLE: CNC Nutrition Education, Outreach, and Monitoring Manager

REPORTS TO: CFM Executive Director

DESCRIPTION:

The CNC Nutrition Education, Outreach, and Monitoring Manager is an ambassador for Cornerstone in the community exemplifying the organization’s mission vision and guiding values as well as the important mission and vision of Cornerstone Family Ministries Children’s Nutrition Connection (i.e. to maintain and expand access to nutritious food for children living below the poverty level). The CNC Nutrition Education, Outreach, and Monitoring Manager is responsible for the CFM Children & Family Nutrition Hub and Community Garden and all related onsite and offsite programing related to the Hub. The position manages a team of four paid staff, contracted professionals, interns and volunteers and is responsible for developing, coordinating, resourcing and managing all aspects of nutrition education, outreach, and monitoring efforts and compliance for Cornerstone’s Children’s Nutrition Connection. Program oversight includes: USDA FLDOH CCFP Nutrition education, menu support and monitoring for 160+ sponsored (i.e. sub-contracted) childcare centers annually and nutrition education programs utilizing nationally recognized and supported curriculum from Cooking Matters and USDA under the CFM program names: Cooking with Kids, Cooking with Families, Cooking with Childcare Heroes, and FRESH EATS. The Nutrition Education, Outreach, and Monitoring manager is the nutrition expert across the organization and in the community on behalf of Cornerstone Family Ministries.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Child Care Food Program

  • Provides training for all new sponsored CCFP center staff before they begin participation in the CCFP and, at minimum, annually trains all existing sponsored CCFP center staff on CCFP Menu Planning and Meal Pattern Requirements
  • Provides monthly in-service staff training to CFM CCFP staff regarding CCFP policies and procedures as it pertains to CCFP Menu Planning and Meal Pattern Requirements (monthly staff training is completed on a rotating basis with the CCFP Program Manager)
  • Provides technical assistance and training to sponsored CCFP sites as it pertains to CCFP Menu Planning and Meal Pattern Requirements, Specialized Diets, and Medical Statements
  • Manages the Technical Assistance Coach team and is responsible for ensuring that three onsite unannounced meal service reviews are completed for each child care center during the fiscal year (one review within the first 28 days of program approval); and that all sponsored sites are in compliance with CCFP meal pattern, licensing, and health and safety requirements
  • Works with CCFP Program Manager to ensure that onsite reviews are passed on to Customer Care Team for administrative and recording keeping monitoring
  • Manages an effective New Center Recruitment Plan which includes professional and community outreach conducted personally and through team member goals. Supervises distribution of CCFP promotional material by team. Responsible for meeting or exceeding new center recruitment goal each year as submitted to the DOH in the organizations CCFP Management plan.
  • Manages the New Center Qualifying and Onboarding process of prospective CCFP sites. Ensures that prospective/new sites understand the benefits of CCFP sponsorship and are encouraged to participate in the additional benefits of CFM’s sponsorship

Nutrition Education

  • Manages the Nutrition Education team comprised of two staff members, contracted labor, interns and volunteers.
  • Seeks and maintains preceptor opportunities with Universities and Colleges and provides supervision for interns requiring a preceptor. Also gives direction to team members working with those students to ensure a quality internship experience.
  • Utilizes interns and provides direct management of a Food Rx aspect of the CFM Nutrition Hub programing.
  • Is responsible for ensuring that the team delivers CFM Cooking with Kids nutrition education 12 lesson content to at least 12 of CFMs CCFP sponsored centers per year by delivering USDA Dozen Ways to be Healthy curriculum to all three and 4 year old students in those centers.
  • Is responsible for ensuring that the team recruits at least 50% of CFMs CCFP sponsored centers and that those centers participate in the CFM Cooking with Childcare Heroes online training using Cooking Matters curriculum.
  • Is responsible for ensuring that the team educates at least 48 families each year through CFM’s FRESH EATS garden to table program that includes the CFM community garden and Cooking with Families programs.
  • Assists in the writing of grant content and compiling of budgets related to nutrition education programs managed and directed under their per-view.
  • Is responsible for evaluating and tracking outcomes for all programs monthly and creating and submitting public and private funding reports as required by each funder.
  • Promotes community health through nutrition by designing, implementing, marketing, and teaching nutrition techniques and programs to the community and CCFP sponsored sites
  • Collaborate with community partners to deliver nutrition education to CCFP sponsored sites and community partners in the immediate neighborhoods being served by CFM
  • Responsible for implementing programs within budget and practicing financial stewardship

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Keeps informed of new developments in public health and dietetics and maintains registrations and state licensures as required by reading current literature and attending professional continuing education meetings
  • Represents Cornerstone in the community as a leader in the field of nutrition by proactively networking with peers currently engaged with Cornerstone at the national, state, and local levels
  • Acts as a liaison with the State of Florida CCFP personnel as needed or directed by Executive Director
  • Serves as part of a management team with the CCFP Program Manager and CCFP IT Manager to effectively lead the CFM Children’s Nutrition Department
  • Participates as a speaker at events, churches, and conferences on behalf of the organization
  • Participates in community events such as tabling events, dinners, and fundraisers on behalf of Cornerstone
  • Responsible for program resourcing which includes but is not limited to participating in donor visits, receiving and recording donations, and assisting in grant writing other fundraising as needed
  • Attends Program Committee meetings and Board of Directors meetings and is prepared to present on program data, outcomes, and updates as needed
  • Participates in the Cornerstone Leadership Team annual planning and budgeting process in August of each year
  • Provides training, mentoring, performance goal setting, monitoring and reviews for CFM Children’s Nutrition Department staff. Provides positive feedback and correction when required to meet goals.
  • Provides monthly reporting to Executive Director related to goals and outcomes.

Abilities and Experience Required:

  • Masters Degree or higher in Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health or a related field
  • Must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and licensed as a Registered Dietitian in the State of Florida or hold similar credentials required to provide supervision to University students.
  • 3 or more years of experience as a program manager in a program funded by private grants and Federal, State or Local contracts – Experience with the Child Care Food Program preferred
  • Agreement with the Mission, Vision and Guiding Values of the Organization
  • Ability to lift 20+ pounds, bend, squat and work in both an outdoor and indoor setting
  • Ability to speak clearly and be understood – In both Spanish and English is preferred
  • Ability to communicate clearly and accurately in writing.
  • Proficient in social media, Excel, Word, Publisher, Outlook and Data tracking systems
  • Ability to provide private transportation to complete work assignments
  • Ability to work a schedule that will include some weekends and rarely may include evenings
