About This Position
Empower young people to BUILD the future they deserve!
The YouthBuild program is designed to provide at-risk youth aged 17 to 24 with the opportunity to earn their high school diploma or GED, receive job training, and gain valuable work experience – all at no cost. This program seeks to improve workforce development opportunities for young people. This program helps participants build leadership skills, engage in community service, and develop career pathways that lead to long-term success in the labor market. The program focuses on construction and other hands-on skills training, as participants work on building affordable housing in their communities.
HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT IN THIS ROLE?
- You will deliver exceptional construction instruction that combines technical skill‑building with personal mentorship, helping youth develop confidence, leadership, and career‑ready competencies.
- You will collaborate closely with construction partners, educators, and community organizations to create supportive and integrated training experience.
SPECIALIZATIONS
- Youth Development & Mentorship
- Expertise in youth engagement, coaching, and positive relationship‑building in a training or workforce‑development setting. Demonstrated ability to support young adults facing barriers to employment through encouragement, consistent expectations, and trauma‑informed practices.
- Construction Trades Instruction
- Proficiency in residential or commercial construction methods, including carpentry, framing, drywall, and finish work. Ability to break down complex skills into teachable steps suitable for young, entry‑level learners.
- Safety & OSHA Compliance
- Experience implementing OSHA safety standards, conducting safety briefings, and maintaining a safe, structured work environment for inexperienced trainees.
- Industry & Community Partner Collaboration
- Skill in coordinating with subcontractors, inspectors, construction partners, and community organizations to support project planning, site logistics, and youth training opportunities.
- Workforce Readiness & Soft‑Skill Development
- Ability to help youth build workplace habits including teamwork, communication, professionalism, and conflict resolution in real‑world jobsite settings.
- Trauma‑Informed and Culturally Responsive Training
- Knowledge of trauma‑informed practices and cultural humility to support diverse youth populations and create a safe environment for learning and growth.
- Vocational Education Support
- Experience supporting academic instructors by integrating hands‑on training with classroom concepts such as NCCER curriculum, measurement, blueprint reading, or worksite math.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
Education/Background:
Minimum Qualifications & Competencies:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction, project planning, or site management.
- Strong ability to coach, mentor, and positively engage young adults from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated experience working in community‑based or youth‑focused settings.
- Proven ability to build collaborative relationships with construction partners, subcontractors, and community organizations.
- Skilled in communication, conflict resolution, and maintaining a positive learning environment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing site conditions.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license in good standing and proof of insurance.
- Must OSHA 10 or 30 Certified
- Must be OSHA 500 certified or willing to obtain upon hire.
- Willingness to obtain NCCER or equivalent construction instructor certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five or more years of hands‑on construction experience, including carpentry, framing, and finish work.
- Prior experience training, mentoring, or teaching young adults in a construction or vocational setting.
- Experience working in YouthBuild, workforce development, nonprofit, or alternative education programs.
- Certification in NCCER, OSHA 500/510, or other relevant construction training credentials.
- Familiarity with trauma‑informed practices, motivational coaching, and strength‑based youth development.
- Experience collaborating with construction partners, subcontractors, inspectors, or community agencies on jobsite or project coordination.
- Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) or ability to work effectively across diverse linguistic and cultural communities.
- Ability to integrate construction instruction with academic concepts (e.g., measurement, math, blueprint reading).
- Demonstrated success in building youth confidence, teamwork, and soft skill development in a job site environment.
- Strong organizational skills, including experience with documentation, reporting, and tracking training progress.

- Excellent initiative, flexibility, and stress-management in handling the demands of leadership.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and delegate to balance the many responsibilities, and address the various issues that a leader faces during the workday.
