The SIU School of Dental Medicine is the only dental school in Illinois that is outside the Chicago metropolitan area, and within a 200-mile radius of St. Louis. What You Will Do
  • Assist the Dental Unit Coordinator (Supply/Diagnostics) with daily supply operations, including processing internal and external orders, handling vendor payments, managing denture tooth requests, and dispensing supplies and equipment.
  • Place orders using a University-issued P-Card and maintain accurate supply and equipment inventory.
  • Stock and monitor First Aid kits and PPE areas, manage shipping and receiving of packages, maintain gold inventory, and inspect sharps containers as needed.
  • Provide coverage and support for diagnostic and clinical areas, including Radiology, Oral Surgery, Laboratory, and other clinic functions as needed.
  • Perform radiology support duties when assigned, including exposing and developing radiographs, applying billing codes, processing film, and maintaining equipment and operatories.
  • Support patient care and clinic operations by scheduling appointments, handling calls, processing Medicaid requests, monitoring referrals, and maintaining accurate patient records and materials.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

  • Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience in dental assisting comparable to that performed at the Dental Assistant II level of this series, including experience in four-handed dentistry.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Current Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) Certification
  • Experience in working with axiUm (Clinical Management System)
This person must have experience in all phases of general dentistry and be able to assist students/residents in the performance of them. This person needs to possess the ability to organize and perform multiple tasks independently, understand and manage the entire process of dental lab casework for all SDM clinics (including its faculty practice). These skills will include; case assignment, turn-around times, delivery methods, and monitoring monetary limits of each laboratory contract. This person must demonstrate the ability to work with faculty, residents, fellows, students, co-workers/staff, and patients of the SDM and be capable of effectively handling patients under stress. This person must have excellent computer skills in order to work with the clinical management system, complete transactions, complete transactions, enter information into the electronic health record, order and maintain lab and supply inventories, communicate and use spreadsheets. This person must be efficient and aseptic when exposing and developing radiographs according to all SDM protocols. This person must be flexible and adaptable to multiple work environments and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills in order to positively resolve conflicts with laboratories. A high degree of manual dexterity (both fine and gross manipulation) is required for this role.
