ABOUT WARRIOR-SCHOLAR PROJECT

In partnership with colleges and universities, Warrior-Scholar Project (WSP) hosts intensive, one-week college-preparatory academic boot camps for enlisted veterans and transitioning service members. Boot camps are offered in three disciplines: Humanities, STEM, and Business. Through faculty lectures, workshops and research projects, tailored assignments, and one-on-one tutoring, warrior-scholars acquire the skills to succeed in higher education and navigate the cultural shift from military service to college. Throughout the course, warrior-scholars are mentored by student veterans who have successfully transitioned from the military to college. WSP also offers workshops tailored to address the unique needs of veterans enrolled in community colleges and targeted programming for underrepresented veterans. All programming is provided at no cost to warrior-scholars.

WSP also hosts additional programming for boot camp alumni, including a graduate school support program, academic support workshops, professional development information sessions, and community engagement opportunities.

DESCRIPTION
Each WSP Mobile Training Team (MTT) consists of 3 successful student-veterans who are alums of the WSP boot camp program. Fellows work collaboratively under the supervision of a Lead Fellow to support the programmatic and logistical execution of WSP boot camps. While responsibilities may vary depending on the assigned team and academic discipline, Fellows play an essential role in creating a supportive and engaging learning environment.

All Fellows are responsible for facilitating academic discussions, supporting and mentoring program participants, coordinating program implementation, and completing administrative tasks in collaboration with WSP staff, campus faculty, and campus stakeholders to ensure that WSP programs are run according to established standards. Effective facilitation requires preparation, communication, adaptability, sound judgment, and the ability to create an environment where participants actively engage in their learning. To prepare Fellows for this responsibility, WSP provides the training, curriculum resources, and ongoing support necessary to facilitate academic discussions, encourage critical thinking, and support participant success throughout the boot camp experience.

Please note that this position is open only to WSP alumni. This position is open to eligible WSP alumni, including those who have not previously served in a Fellow capacity. This is a seasonal position. WSP Fellows are expected to be available to work from mid-April to mid-August 2027. If you are interested in applying but know you will be unavailable for short, specific periods during this window, please indicate your unavailability in your application. This is an hourly, non-exempt position. Fellows will be paid for hours worked (including travel time). The Fellow's hourly rate is $24.50. Fellows can anticipate earning $8,000 to $10,300 over the course of the summer.

Administrative Tasks Throughout Summer:

  • Track, record, and approve time worked in ADP by the deadline provided by the Director of Human Resources to ensure accurate and timely pay

  • Adapt to changing campus and participant needs, collaborating with the Lead Fellow and other team members to ensure effective program execution

  • Mentor and support participants throughout the program, facilitating discussions on academic and military-to-college transition topics while encouraging active participation, critical thinking, and collaborative learning.

  • Connect participants to designated WSP staff or vetted resources on matters that exceed Fellows' scope of work in accordance with the on-call protocol
