Position Overview
Bronx Charter School for the Arts (Bronx Arts) is seeking a hands-on, dependable, and motivated Assistant Supervisor of Facilities to help maintain safe, clean, and welcoming spaces for our students, staff, and families.

This position is designed as a leadership pathway. From January through June 2027, the Assistant Supervisor of Facilities will work closely with the current head of facilities, learning the buildings, systems, schedules, vendors, and daily operations. Beginning in July 2027, the Assistant Supervisor of Facilities is expected to transition into the head of facilities role, with responsibility for leading the facilities team and overseeing school facilities operations.

The ideal candidate has experience maintaining buildings, takes pride in solving problems, and is ready to learn and grow into a leadership role. At Bronx Arts, we believe our physical spaces play an important part in creating a community where children can think boldly, create fearlessly, and rise with purpose.

Key Responsibilities

Facilities Operations and Maintenance
  • Open the school building daily, ensuring all interior and exterior areas are clean, safe, and ready to welcome students and staff.
  • Coordinate with the cleaning company to ensure proper cleaning, maintenance of cleanliness standards, and secure building closure.
  • Conduct regular building walkthroughs to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and necessary repairs.
  • Perform or coordinate routine repairs, including painting, doors, locks, furniture, lighting, and general building maintenance.
  • Monitor building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire safety, and security equipment.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and maintain preventive maintenance schedules.

  • Work closely with project managers, contractors, and vendors on repairs, inspections, and capital improvement projects.
  • Assist with classroom setups, school events, deliveries, and other operational needs.
  • Respond to urgent facility needs, including occasional early morning, evening, or weekend emergencies.
Training and Leadership Development: January–June 2027
  • Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m., with occasional early morning, evening, or weekend availability as needed for emergencies or special school events.
  • Work alongside the current head of facilities to learn the day-to-day operations of Bronx Arts facilities.

  • Participate in identified training and obtain any certifications required for the role.
Career Growth and Advancement Opportunity
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop the skills and experience necessary to transition into a supervisory role. Following an initial transitional period, School leadership will conduct a formal performance evaluation to assess readiness for advancement, including job performance, leadership potential, accountability, and overall suitability for a supervisory position.

Advancement is not guaranteed and will be contingent upon a satisfactory performance evaluation, demonstrated readiness for supervisory responsibilities, Executive Director approval, organizational needs, and available budgetary resources. In the event of promotion to a supervisory role, compensation will be reevaluated and may be adjusted to reflect the increased responsibilities and expectations associated with the position, subject to budgetary constraints and Executive Director approval. Any change in title, responsibilities, or compensation will be communicated to the employee upon formal approval of the promotion.

Potential Transition to Head of Facilities: Beginning July 2027
Subject to successful completion of the transitional training period, a satisfactory performance evaluation, demonstrated readiness to assume supervisory responsibilities, management approval, organizational needs, and available budgetary resources, the employee may be considered for advancement to the role of Head of Facilities, with a potential transition date of July 2027.
