About This Position
Reports to the Chief Operating Officer, Beacon Health System. The President of the Hospital is responsible for providing leadership, direction and administration of corporate goals and objectives through the effective assignment and monitoring of accountabilities and responsibilities to the hospital leadership and management staff. Ensures Hospital services are delivered in accordance with standards established by the CEO and Board of Trustees and the realization of quality, economical health care services.

Directs the implementation of Hospital operation goals and objectives as established by the CEO and Board of Trustees and the realization of quality, economical health care services by:
- Consulting with the executive staff in the planning and recommendation of all operational goals and objectives.
- Ensuring that Hospital policies are uniformly understood, consistently interpreted and administered through effective corporate channels of communication.
- Evaluating operational activities and ensuring the quality of services offered, as established by predetermined corporate goals and objectives.
- Analyzing operating results attained on a regular basis, taking appropriate corrective action if necessary, and reporting results of activities.
- Interfacing with subordinate executives in the analysis of market trends in order to determine the viability of resources available to meet market demands.
- Overseeing the selection, employment, development, control and discharge of subordinate directors/managers.
- Establishing appropriate departmentalization and delegation; delineating personnel accountabilities.
- Continuously reviewing productivity and efficiency of staff and recommending changes where needed.
Monitors the adequacy of Hospital's medical activities by:
- Interacting closely with the medical staff to ensure required standards of medical performance are achieved and maintained.
- Reviewing and approving contractual relationships between the Hospital and its physicians.
- Negotiating sensitive contracts when necessary.
Works with subordinate executives in the development of goals, forecasts, plans and budgets for area(s) of responsibility and ensures same are appropriately administered and adhered to by:
- Ensuring the sound fiscal operation of the Hospital including the timely, accurate and comprehensive development of an annual budget and its implementation; also, reviewing all capital equipment expenditures.
- Implementing and monitoring through executive staff members, effective communication and maintenance of corporate values.
- Ensuring Elkhart Hospital is in compliance with all regulations impacting health care delivery and the rules of accrediting bodies by monitoring operations and initiating changes where required.
Maintains and establishes good community relationships by:
- Representing the organization and its services positively to the public.
- Attending meetings of professional, civic and service organizations as an official representative of Elkhart Hospital.
- Encouraging and maintaining the integration of the Hospital with the community/public through effective communication and public relations programs.
Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:
- Researching, recommending and implementing new processes and technology to improve quality of services provided.
- Participating on Elkhart General Hospital/Beacon Health System committees as requested.
- Completing other job-related assignments and special projects as directed.

- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.

- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience
- The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through completion of a Master's Degree (MHA/MBA/MS) in Hospital Administration, Health Care Administration or related area. A minimum of ten years of responsible experience in a multi-faceted health care environment or a service related industry of which four to five years was in a high level managerial capacity is required.
Knowledge & Skills
- Demonstrates solid knowledge in health care delivery systems, management theories and financial and strategic planning necessary for the effective administration of Hospital operations.
- Demonstrates an advanced level of analytical and organizational skills in order to effectively integrate all aspects of Hospital operations to meet and/or exceed corporate goals and objectives.
- Requires an understanding of the legal and regulatory environment present in healthcare to ensure that all Elkhart General Hospital policies and practices are in compliance.
- Demonstrates the interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) necessary to interact effectively in extremely sensitive and/or complex situations with a variety of internal and external contacts and to make effective presentations before groups.
