Job Description

Primary Purpose: The Council’s Internship Program is an exciting professional development opportunity designed to provide hands-on experience and unique exposure to the insurance industry from The Council’s distinct vantage point. Interns will gain insight into advocacy, business strategy, industry trends, communications, and operational functions while developing valuable skills in a professional environment.

Interns will be assigned to a team within our organization:

Government Affairs – Support federal advocacy efforts and track the legislative landscape impacting our members.

Membership – Assist in cultivating relationships with member firms and delivering high-value resources and support.

Leadership & Management Resources – Contribute to industry advisory efforts, leadership training, and professional development programs.

Leader’s Edge Magazine & Market Intelligence – Gain exposure to editorial trends, publishing, business intelligence, and market insights in the insurance space.

The Council Foundation – Support philanthropic initiatives, workforce development programs, and efforts to attract talent to the insurance industry.

Marketing & Communications – Assist in branding, content creation, digital strategy, media outreach, and event promotion.

People & Culture – Learn about HR functions, organizational development, and employee engagement strategies.

Finance & Accounting– Gain insight into financial operations, accounting processes, and budgeting for a member-driven organization.

Technology – Support technological programs and initiatives that drive operational efficiency and enhance member services.

Core Responsibilities

  • Conduct research, draft reports, and assist with special projects within assigned team.
  • Engage in cross-team collaboration and problem-solving.
  • Develop key professional skills in communication, writing, analysis, and teamwork.
  • Participate in networking events, professional development sessions, and outings.

Education:

  • Current undergraduate, graduate students or recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Interest in advocacy, business strategy, industry trends, communications, or operational functions is preferred.

Other Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and an ability to learn new tools quickly.

Abilities:

  • Curious, eager to learn, and proactive in engaging with different aspects of the organization.
  • Detail-oriented and results-driven, able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work across teams.
