Job Description
Position Summary:
This is responsible position involving the supervision of a first shift operation which insures that the services provided to clients are on schedule and meet quality standards and cost containment objectives.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directs the overall movement, storage, inventory and security of goods and equipment either through subordinate supervisors or direct supervision.
- Plans and coordinates the transfer of material from suppliers to the warehouse and/or the warehouse to customers.
- Arranges for periodic inventories, sets schedules, maintains safety and costs standards and may have responsibility for a broad range of administrative duties.
- Participates with senior management in planning and directing the goals, objectives and operations of a large facility dedicated to providing services to clients. Maintains awareness of corporate objectives and evaluates what actions the function should take to meet those objectives.
- Analyzes information on the function’s effectiveness and efficiency. Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations. Recommends operating policies and procedures.
- Confers with the Director of Operations to establish daily production priorities.
- Monitors expenses by enforcing existing containment efforts or by developing new ones.
- Confers with supervisors to determine personnel requirements. Requisitions, interviews and selects qualified employees necessary to perform work. Coordinates training and department orientation efforts. Provides Director of Operations with advance notice and justification when requesting department overtime and/or the addition of temporary personnel. Reviews and controls approved overtime in order to assure that it is used in a cost effective and nondiscriminatory manner.
- Uses judgment not only to solve problems but to prevent recurrence.
- Ensures that subordinates receive current information pertinent to their responsibilities in a timely manner.
- Establishes and actively promotes the concepts of teamwork and commitment to providing exemplary service to the client.
- Encourages supervisors to practice the technique of “management by walking around” and sets the example by personally doing so on a regular basis.
- Counsels employees and oversees training. Administers company policies and procedures and ensures that all actions taken are consistent with these policies and procedures.
- Interviews job candidates for higher positions. Reviews and approves recommendations of candidates for employment made by subordinate supervisors.
- Initiates action and recommends approval of promotions, merit increases, transfers, leaves of absence or other personnel changes.
- Conducts performance management reviews on a regularly scheduled basis and as needed to help subordinates achieve agreed upon objectives. Takes corrective action when required. Implements and coordinates programs designed to measure performance of temporary employees.
- Oversees the implementation and administration of safety policies. Assures safe work practices.
- Prepares a variety of regular and special reports and submits them on or before the required deadlines.
- Manages, monitors and coordinates security programs designed to protect client property. Recommends appropriate changes to maintain security integrity when warranted by increased work loads or other factors.
- Seeks ways to expand job knowledge through formal education or informal learning.
- Conducts staff meetings and attends other corporate meetings.
- Performs related duties as may be required.
Qualifications
- Requires an Associate’s Degree of the equivalent from a recognized college with courses in Business Administration preferred, plus 3 years progressively responsible supervisory/managerial experience, or an equivalent combination of education and qualifying experience substituting on a year-for-year basis.
- Proficiency with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven and constantly evolving environment
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work on-site in a warehouse environment
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer for extended periods
- May require lifting materials or products up to 30 lbs occasionally
