About This Position
ONLY DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEE ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY. The HIM Specialist performs a wide variety of functions including chart analysis and completion, assures accurate medical records, daily processing of release of information, birth and death registry entries, and serves as a knowledgeable resource for internal and external stakeholders. This role participates in all primary functions performed in Health Information and leverages insights gleaned from experience and/or education to act as a subject matter expert for particular functions. This is a hybrid position that works collaboratively with other key areas to ensure compliance and consistent processing of medical records. All activities shall be performed in accordance with The Joint Commission rules and regulations, HIPAA, and RRMC policy and practices.
Minimum Education
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Information, Healthcare Administration or related field preferred.
Minimum Work Experience
- 2 years of experience in HIM, medical records, or healthcare operations.
Required Licenses/Certifications
- RHIT or RHIA certification preferred
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Demonstrated excellent customer service skills.
- Demonstrated strong knowledge of basic computer skills, including working knowledge of EHR systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- Ability to facilitate workflow and education activities independently
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and assignments
- Ability to identify workflow improvements and propose solutions to complex problems.
Pay Range: $20.27 - 29.96
