Position Summary
Zachry Construction is seeking a Reinforcing Steel Setter (Cable-Stay Installation) to raise, place, and connect iron or steel girders, columns, and other structural members on bridge structures. This role supports critical bridge construction activities and requires the ability to work at significant heights while performing physically demanding tasks in a heavy civil construction environment.
What You'll Do
- Read specifications and blueprints to determine locations, quantities, and sizes of required materials
- Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts following blueprints and supervisor instructions
- Bolt aligned structural steel members in position for permanent riveting, bolting, or welding
- Fasten structural steel members to hoist cables using chains, cables, or rope
- Rig and hoist steel beams, girders, or columns into place using cranes or by signaling hoisting equipment operators
- Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel members using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, or levels
- Cut, bend, or weld steel pieces using metal shears, torches, or welding equipment
- Erect metal or precast concrete components
- Guide structural steel members into final positions using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks, or hand tools
- Pull, push, or pry structural steel members into approximate positions for bolting
- Drive drift pins through rivet holes to align structural steel members
- Assemble hoisting equipment or rigging such as cables, pulleys, or hooks
- Fabricate metal parts including steel frames, columns, beams, or girders according to blueprints or supervisor instructions

What We're Looking For
- Minimum of two or more years of heavy civil structural ironworker experience
- Ability to work at elevated heights of up to 500 feet
- Ability to work outdoors up to 100% of the time
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to perform physically demanding activities including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials
- Ability to inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify errors, defects, or other issues
- Ability to use judgment and relevant information to determine compliance with laws, regulations, and standards
- Dependable, self-motivated, and task-oriented work approach
- Strong prioritization and organizational skills with attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
