HIM Release Of Information Specialist

POSITION PURPOSE

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Maintains the confidentiality of patient, employee, and physician information, whether it is in verbal, written, or electronic form by strictly adhering to UHS policies and procedures and state/federal statutes.
- Monitors workload and re-prioritizes work as necessary.
- Assists in training of new employees, co-workers and students.
- Performs duties in an independent manner with little or no supervision, needs no reminder after directions are explained, is proactive by determining what needs to be done next without being asked and sees the task through to completion.
- Demonstrates good decision making skills based on factual, objective data and exercises independent judgment in situations when a supervisor is not immediately available.
- Demonstrates a willingness to offer process improvement suggestions and embraces change.
- Shows evidence of being a team player, exhibiting prompt and professional communication that is clear, concise, and accurate, supporting co-workers, and maintaining a positive attitude.
- Completes assigned job responsibilities by end of shift. Informs Supervisor if assigned task(s) cannot be completed in a timely manner or of any work related problems.
- Provides excellent customer service to patients and visitors by being attentive, respectful, and professional both in person and by telephone.
- Reviews all correspondence including paper mail, facsimile, electronic mail, and voice messages and processes or reroutes as appropriate in a timely fashion.
- Reviews requests for authenticity and completeness prior to processing. Contacts requester if request is rejected.
- Promptly and accurately fulfills release of information requests in accordance with Froedtert South policies and procedures and state/federal statutes within thirty (30) calendar days.
- Imports all documentation into electronic record in preparation for release.
- Monitors electronic requests and responses in a timely fashion.
- Monitors pended requests and takes action as necessary as evidenced by well-maintained pend queues.
- Coordinates auditors’ reviews including accepting the request, creating a user code, obtaining a password, ensuring all patient information from all systems is present for the dates of service being audited, verifying the auditor’s identity, confirming the audit log is completed, and printing any needed documents.
- Works collaboratively with other departments to obtain necessary information to complete record requests.
Salary Range: $17.00 to $25.25/hr (based on experience)
