Zuern Building Products is currently seeking a Lead Yard Material Handler & Assistant Dispatcher to join our Watertown team. Ideal candidate is a motivated self- starter with a strong work ethic.
Requirements:Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist the Yard Manager in dispatch with the following duties:
- Coordinate with Sales to schedule deliveries, returns, and necessary schedule adjustments
- Covering dispatch communication and Bistrack Journey Planner closeout (end-of-day), ensuring work is completed in advance to support smooth bill printing, next-day planning, and on-time departures.
- Print, review, and assign pick tickets to staff for order pulling; coordinate that pulls are staged to support early truck departures
- Equipment and yard securement
- Loading of same and next day deliveries
- Communicating and executing schedule adjustments to those affected
- Ensuring the days orders are invoiced promptly and accurately
- Tracking, processing, and completing customer returns
- Communicating inventory needs and assisting in scheduling transfers
- Covering dispatch IN FULL when yard manager is away
- Complete a daily “baton handoff” recap (email/message) documenting truck assignments, journey status, exceptions/issues, and next-day risks; ensure clean handoff between shifts
- Redirect time-off, attendance, and health-related notifications to the appropriate manager/HR contact per location protocol
- Serve as a communication bridge between drivers, dispatch, and yard leadership; reinforce standard work and prevent unauthorized changes to dispatch plans through coaching, mentorship, and proper approvals
- Ensure order double-check and finished-pick audits are executed consistently to verify accuracy before loading
- Audit delivery paperwork, pick tickets, and VCRs for completion and accuracy; coach team members on correct completion and follow up on gaps
- Conduct yard audits to ensure rotation and quality of material, appropriate stock levels, maximized space and material flow, proper handling of returns, safe/maintained racking, accurate bin labeling, and overall cleanliness of the yard and equipment.
- Utilize the Dispatch Dashboard to ensure:
- Journey close out and completion
- Verify delivery photos meet standards (good quality, correct quantity/coverage) and are uploaded in a timely manner
- Work with OAA to keep credit notes updated and relevant
- Transfers are completed, accurate, and relevant
- Be trained and knowledgeable in:
- alarm monitoring system
- sprinkler system functionality and maintenance
- emergency on call procedures
- Back up YMH team in pulling loads as well receiving team in receiving into bistrack, stocking, labeling, securing, and storing materials as needed
- Assist in inventory counting and auditing as needed
- Assist in customer loading as needed
Qualifications:
1. Disciplined, dependable, and resourceful Requires High School Diploma and lumberyard experience or 2-4 year degree related to business or construction industry.
2. Mathematical skills required to add, subtract, multiply, divide, measurements of square foot and cubic foot
3. Strong computer skills and understanding of Zuern Building Products software platform
4. Forklift certification required
5. Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds, bend, stoop, kneel, climb and reach
6. Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
7. Excellent customer service skills
8. Alert, focused and detail-oriented
9. Requires good oral and written communication skills in order to interact with employees and customers
10. Physically and mentally fit
11. Self-starter who works well independently as well as the ability to work well with others when needed
