Position OverviewThe RN Fellow position is designed for Registered Nurses who do not yet have the typical one to two years of specialty experience required for this clinical area. As an RN Fellow, you will receive an extended orientation and, when applicable, participate in additional specialty-specific education. This enhanced onboarding and learning experience is designed to build confidence, strengthen clinical skills, and support a successful transition into the specialty practice environment.
Position SummaryThe Registered Nurse promotes optimal health, safety, and well-being through the application of the nursing process in accordance with patient care standards and the Idaho Nurse Practice Act. This role provides relationship-based care, recognizing the patient, family, and/or designee as full partners in care delivery.
The RN delivers compassionate, coordinated, and culturally competent care that respects patients’ preferences, values, and needs. The role actively engages in nursing and interprofessional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-making to achieve high-quality outcomes. Evidence-based practice, data-driven quality improvement, and effective use of technology are integral to this position.
Essential Responsibilities- Assists physicians during examinations and procedures
- Performs patient assessments, diagnostic testing, and medication administration within RN scope of practice
- Promotes patient independence by establishing care goals and providing education to patients and families regarding conditions, medications, and self-care skills
- Performs a variety of clinical and support tasks as required
- Demonstrates creativity, critical thinking, and professional judgment in clinical practice
- Maintains familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the specialty area
- Ensures regular and predictable attendance
- Demonstrates competence in meeting age-specific needs of the assigned patient population
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing program
- Licensed Registered Nurse with a minimum of 3 years of patient-facing RN experience at time of hire
- ADN or diploma required
- BSN or higher preferred
- Non‑BSN RNs with less than 3 years of patient-facing experience at time of hire must enroll in a baccalaureate (or higher) nursing program within 1 year of employment and complete it within 3 years of hire
- Current Idaho RN license or
- Temporary Idaho RN licensure or
- Multistate RN license from a compact state prior to start date
- CCRN, CNOR, or a minimum of 1 year experience in Critical Care, Emergency, or OR/PACU (as applicable)
- ACLS certification required
- BLS certification required (AHA Healthcare Provider, American Red Cross, AHA Health Saver, or KH BLS during General Orientation)
- Ability to lift and move up to 35 pounds
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to stoop, crouch, bend, push, pull, and transport equipment
- Ability to assist with patient transfers
- Regular use of clinical and medical equipment
- Exposure to needles, blood, body fluids, and other clinical hazards
