What does a day in the life as a Collection Specialist look like?

  • Manage and collect outstanding balances from assigned customers via phone, email, and written correspondence.
  • Research and resolve customer disputes and payment discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate records of all collection activities and customer interactions within the collections system.
  • Generate and analyze aging reports to identify overdue accounts and prioritize collection efforts.
  • Collaborate with sales and customer success teams to address customer payment issues and improve the overall customer experience.
  • Process and apply customer payments, ensuring accurate posting to accounts.
  • Identify and escalate potentially uncollectible accounts to management for further action.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What are the required qualifications for a Collection Specialist?

  • 2 + years of experience in collections, accounts receivable, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to negotiate and resolve customer disputes effectively.
  • Proficient in using Excel/Google Sheets and Microsoft Office/Google Suite products
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Experience using ZenDesk and Salesforce.
  • Familiar with with Googlesheets/Excel.
