The primary purpose of this position is to develop, implement, and oversee production activities for the operations personnel within the assigned manufacturing department while maintaining adherence to EH&S protocols, regulatory requirements, and plant policies. Coordinate packaging and production needs by collaboratively planning with sales and business management. Responsible for leading direct reports in a fair and ethical manner, while encouraging and facilitating continuous improvement to ensure operational excellence.
- Drive overall manufacturing activities for respective department(s) – Monitor daily production performance, maintain proper GMP and housekeeping practices, review production and personnel work schedules, understand and train relative personnel on all facets of the production process, and support plant initiatives
- Collaborate with the Maintenance department as necessary, to ensure effective and timely repair of production equipment, schedule preventative maintenance, develop and train personnel on equipment specific lock out tag out procedures
- Collaborate with the plant Quality department to ensure the highest quality product is delivered to our customers, promote Food Safety standards, follow up on finished product quality concerns, maintain low inventory of non-saleable product, and coordinate any additional testing needs for production trials or experimental product
- Directly manage a unionized hourly workforce within the assigned manufacturing department, coordinate optimum staffing level to meet production needs, monitor overtime and individual performance, hold employees accountable, and lead cultural and continual improvement efforts
- Collaborate with the Safety department to ensure adherence to EH&S protocols, develop safety standards and SOPs, train hourly and salaried personnel as necessary, and encourage reporting of and follow up on departmental incidents
- Perform administrative duties – Effectively communicate with plant and corporate personnel, participate in customer, supplier, and regulatory plant audits, understand budgeting and cost control measures, and order supplies through our ERP system
- Demonstrate effective leadership capabilities, support colleagues, and work individually or collaboratively as a team to achieve plant objectives
- B.S. Engineering or 3-5 years relevant experience
- Supervisory experience, 3-5 years preferred
- Knowledge of phosphate manufacturing preferred
- Experience with ERP system functionality (JD Edwards, SAP, etc)
- Planning for the purpose of meeting production needs, goals, or deadlines
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong computer skills and use of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc)
- Principles and procedures of record keeping and reporting
- Understanding of occupational hazards and standard safety practices and procedures
- Basic budgeting and cost control understanding
- Ability to lead others, multi-task, and maintain organized records
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Comply with standard company and site specific safety rules and practices
- Direct responsibility for up to 20 hourly departmental reports
- No salaried reports
- Environment: Standard office and industrial manufacturing setting for the majority of day-to-day activities
- Physical: Sufficient physical ability to sit or stand long periods at a time, and ascend/descend stairs frequently
- Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents and to operate equipment
- Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction
