The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.
The MMF seeks to fill multiple Environmental Summer Student positions within our Energy, Infrastructure, and Resource Management Department located in Winnipeg, MB.
Job Duties/Competencies:
- Assist with daily operations in greenhouses and community gardens, including planting, watering, and harvesting;
- Support horticulture and agriculture projects focused on food sustainability and land stewardship;
- Participate in farm visits and assist with fieldwork activities and site maintenance;
- Help prepare soil, composting systems, and planting beds;
- Assist in delivering climate action and environmental sustainability initiatives;
- Maintain tools, equipment, and outdoor workspaces in a safe and organized manner;
- Collect basic data and support reporting on plant growth and project outcomes;
- Work collaboratively with team members on land-based programming and activities;
- Engage respectfully with community members and program participants.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in or returning to a program related to environmental studies, agriculture, horticulture, natural resources, or a related field;
- Previous experience working outdoors, in agriculture, gardening, or landscaping is an asset;
- Interest in climate action, sustainability, and land-based learning;
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions;
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills;
- Experience working with boards and/or committees is preferred;
- Acceptable Criminal Record Check is required;
- Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
- Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, and MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
- Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
