Job Overview:

.One of only four state-designated centers in New Jersey, the Comprehensive Hemophilia Treatment Center at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center provides care to both pediatric and adult patients with inherited bleeding and clotting disorders. The Center offers complete evaluations by a team of experts including hematologists, nurses, psychosocial professionals and physical therapists. Consultation by infectious disease specialists, dentists, nutritionists, gastroenterologists, orthopedists and other specialists is provided as needed.
Our Center’s goal is to provide the latest advances in treatment for people with hemophilia, assist in the care of the complications of hemophilia, and continue to provide support to persons with hemophilia and their families with the goal of achieving a normal lifestyle.
The Center provides care for children and adults with von Willebrand disease and other bleeding disorders. Patients with thrombosis (clotting disorder) receive comprehensive treatment at the center. We also coordinate a home care program which enables persons with hemophilia to lead normal, productive lives. The home care program allows for immediate treatment, thus avoiding the delay, stress and cost of emergency room care.
Adult and pediatric infectious disease and gastrointestinal specialists provide comprehensive care for hemophilia patients with AIDS and/or hepatitis and their partners.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- A minimum of 3 years acute care experience
- BSN Degree
Preferred:
- Experience with hemophilia patients or patients with blood disorders
- Knowledge of standard of care treatment for patients with hematology disorders
- Pediatric experience helpful
- Ambulatory/Outpatient experience
Certifications and Licenses Required:
- Active NJ RN license or compact RN license with NJ endorsement
- BLS from the American Heart Association
Scheduling Requirements:
- Day Shift, 8:00a - 4:00p or 9:00a-5:00p (variable and not guaranteed)
- Full-Time, 37.5 hours
- Monday – Friday, no weekends, no major holidays
Essential Functions
- The RN is responsible for providing clinical care, education and coordination for pediatric and adult patients with bleeding and clotting disorders
- This role requires strong communication skills, ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and supporting patients across the lifespan
- The primary role of the nurse coordinator is to ensure seamless coordination of patient care in order to address bleeding and clotting issues to ensure best possible outcomes
- This work includes clinical practice, care coordination, patient and staff education, quality improvement, and has significant latitude for exercising professional judgement when experience is attained
- The Nurse Coordinator is an integral member of the multidisciplinary team providing developmentally appropriate care to patients and families of all ages, but with a concentration on adult care, with primarily bleeding but also clotting and vascular disorder
- The RN Coordinator acts as liaison between patient, family, provider, clinical staff, pharmacy, and scheduling and registration personnel to ensure safe and efficient patient flow
- The RN coordinator functions as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary lifespan team by displaying respectful communication, deferring to the expertise of team members with complementary roles, and by upholding professional standards of a health care team member
- The RN Coordinator is responsible for providing clinical care, education and coordination for pediatric and adult patients with bleeding and clotting disorders
