About This Position

SUMMARY

The Early Head Start Coaching Specialist mentors Early Head Start Family Educators using guidance, coaching, modeling, and training to support best Home Visiting practices. This individual will work closely with the Early Head Start Manager and Program Specialist to support professional development and to support and promote program excellence, especially in areas of school readiness, language, and literacy. The EHS Coaching Specialist will also work in collaboration with the Head Start Coaching Specialist to plan, collect, analyze, and use program data for supporting professional development across both programs. Knowledge or experience with implementing program curriculums, assessment tools, HOVRS and CLASS observation tools, and ability to offer strengths-based mentorship will be valuable in this position.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

· Provide guidance, accountability, and practical tools to help Family Educators support parents identify their strengths, enhance their parenting skills, and parent-child relationships.

· Facilitate peer shadowing and peer-peer mentoring within Early Head Start Team

· Conduct HOVRS observations for Family Educators at home visits; review observations with staff and provide follow-up support as needed.

· Work with Early Head Start Manager to plan and implement strategies for increasing quality of home visiting practices through coaching and professional development.

· With program staff support, take the lead in planning, coordinating, and facilitating professional development opportunities based on individual and program needs.

· Utilize program curriculum and other resources to support the Early Head Start program in areas of school readiness, transition to preschool, language, and literacy.

· Data entry for coaching, and HOVRS using Child Plus

· Compile data from HOVRS, DRDP and staff surveys; analyze and utilize data to inform and implement Strengths and Needs Assessments and to demonstrate individual and program growth.

· Regular collaboration with Head Start Coaching Specialist to plan, implement, and assess support across both programs.

· Attend and participate in School Readiness, Admin, Coaching Learning Community Meetings and participate in ongoing professional development.

· Work in a variety of environments: office, (including weekly presence at Chaska office location) family homes, classrooms, and community space. Must be flexible to variety in daily schedule, travel in personal vehicle as needed and be willing to work with diverse community.

· Contribute to recruitment efforts including but not limited to occasionally attending community recruitment/outreach events.

· Perform other duties as assigned by Early Head Start Manager

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines

Bachelor’s Degree in early education or related baccalaureate degree with equivalent coursework in Early Childhood education. Three years’ experience as a teacher in an early childhood program. Experience working with culturally diverse and low-income families. Experience with adult learning and teacher skill development.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License, proof of insurance and review of Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) report is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a standard office and classroom environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. Mobility to drive a motor vehicle in order to attend meetings. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree.
