About This Position

Description:

FamilyAid is a leading provider of solutions to family homelessness. Our mission is to empower parents and caregivers facing homelessness to secure and sustain housing and build solid foundations for their children's futures.

We prevent family homelessness whenever possible, reduce harm if homelessness can't be avoided by housing families as quickly as possible, mitigate trauma, especially for children, and provide wraparound supports that foster long-term stability.

We provide children and parents with a path to self-sufficiency via two-generation educational programs, housing search and placement support, and connections to vital resources they need to return to their own homes.

Our strategic vision and bold strategies to reduce two-generation homelessness successfully served 5,000 children and parents in Greater Boston last year.

Our supportive, collaborative, diverse workplace of more than 130 professionals is ideal for skilled, result-oriented professionals who are driven to help children and families thrive. FamilyAid has been recognized as a Massachusetts Top Workplace by The Boston Globe and by Charity Navigator as one of the nation's top organizations working to end homelessness.

Position Summary

This high-impact summer internship sits at the intersection of clinical practice, data, policy, and organizational change management. The Family Stability Evaluation (FSE) has long been a cornerstone of FamilyAid’s case management work, guiding how staff assess family needs and plan for stability. FSE 2.0 is a major strategic initiative to redesign and modernize this evaluation tool, grounding it more deeply in evidence-based practice, the two-generation (2Gen) framework, and improved data collection and reporting standards. The result will be a tool that not only captures family strengths and needs across the 2Gen domains but translates assessment findings directly into actionable case management activities and measurable outcomes.

The FSE 2.0 Intern will work directly with the Director of Clinical Training and the Chief Operating Officer, as well as director and supervisor level staff across the agency, to advance this work. The intern will contribute to multiple facets of the project: research and policy review, domain scale development, project management, and supporting the change management and training strategy for agency-wide implementation. This is a rare opportunity for a student to work alongside executive leadership on a project with immediate, lasting impact on the families FamilyAid serves.

  • Domain Scale Development Support

o Assist in the development of assessment scales for remaining 2Gen domains, including social capital, health and well-being, education, and social connections

o Support drafting and refining SOPs for each completed scale

o Contribute to ensuring alignment between FSE 2.0 scales, clinical best practices, and funder reporting requirements

  • Project Management

o Track project progress, timelines, and action items across workstreams

o Prepare agendas, meeting materials, and follow-up documentation for weekly director/supervisor meetings

o Maintain organized records of research, drafts, and decisions

  • Change Management & Training Support

o Assist in developing a change management strategy to support agency-wide adoption of FSE 2.0

o Help design training materials and resources for case management staff
