Job Description
Remote Power Distribution Designer
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Remote Power Distribution Designer. In this role, you will be instrumental in shaping electric utility distribution projects, taking charge of design, fielding, and coordinating efforts with both utility providers and customer stakeholders. Your expertise will ensure that engineering activities align with company standards while supporting timely construction schedules. As a remote worker, you'll collaborate closely with project management and contribute to the development of effective infrastructure solutions, driving efficiency and quality in every project you undertake.
Accountabilities- Ensure project engineering activities comply with company and contract requirements and support overall construction schedule.
- Apply design standards to underground and aerial pole line cable plant.
- Review preliminary and final design drawings using computer aided drafting systems.
- Produce and review detailed design documentation including utility design systems and line layout/routing.
- Review and apply applicable industry & customer codes and standards required for the preparation of work order drawings.
- Perform and review field data collection and prepare accurate field sketches.
- Prepare documentation and work order construction prints.
- Field check design layouts and provide technical support for construction.
- Coordinate and attend design reviews of distribution projects with utility customers.
- Maintain project records for assigned work and facilitate turnover to the clients representative.
- Responsible for ongoing communication and timely identification of issues to the PM/Lead.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, designers, and drafters to deliver cost-effective solutions.
- Contribute to and implement design modifications to improve quality of projects and processes.
- Interface with vendors and on-site construction crews as required ensuring quality of construction.
- Associates degree, or equivalent related experience with the design of electrical distribution systems.
- 3-5 years of PPL Electric Distribution design experience.
- Regional travel required, as needed for the job.
- Must have a current valid drivers license with a clean driving record for the past 5 years.
- Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Teams required.
- 5+ years of experience in the Power Distribution industry (preferred).
- Prior experience with AutoCAD 2D and 3D (preferred).
- Knowledge of Right-of-Way acquisition processes (preferred).
- Experience with highway, railroad, and waterway crossing requirements (preferred).
- Ability to produce detailed and accurate structural modification drawings (preferred).
