Position Summary:
Plans, coordinates, and controls production processes to maintain production schedules to meet customer order requirements. Supervises all production employees, schedules work, and reviews performance.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Maintain a high level of workplace safety awareness through training and observation to build Team Player awareness of job safety and eliminate the potential for injury.
- Ensure quality of work, efficient material and workflow, proper use and care of equipment and machines, and proper application of production methods.
- Develop a trained, high-performance team capable of achieving production requirements to meet customer demand for high-quality zinc oxide.
- Maintain production equipment and tools optimally to minimize downtime and work schedule interruption and preserve lifetime capability.
- Maintain related production output and product sampling records to compile production performance records and data used for reporting, analyzing, and making business decisions.
- Evaluate processes and make suggestions to improve efficiency, quality, and reduce costs.
- Understands the authorized quality management system as it applies to job responsibilities and executes duties per defined procedures to ensure continuous quality improvement within the Company.
- Operates with high integrity in performing duties to foster good working relationships and a spirit of teamwork to accomplish job goals.
- Evaluate work performance and counsel and coach Team Players to maintain effective work performance with quality outcomes.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment in all areas.
- Report and investigate workplace incidents (injuries and near misses) in conjunction with Safety and Human Resources to ensure compliance with OSHA reporting and reduce the severity of incidents.
- Follow all safety rules, regulations, and procedures set forth by the Federal and State agencies & Zinc Resources LLC policies.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned to contribute to the overall efficient operation and continuous process improvement of the Company’s other duties as requested.
Minimum Education Qualifications:
- High School or equivalency required, Bachelor's Degree or some college coursework in Business or a closely related field preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required:
- 3-5 years’ experience in a heavy industrial environment, comprising managing production teams in adherence to processes, policies, and procedures; application of employment law, internal human resources policies, and department procedures in managing direct reports.
- Proficiency in Excel is required.
- Knowledge and understanding of how to use a Periodic Table.
- Ability to learn rapidly, follow directions, and acquire acceptable work habits such as punctuality, skill, neatness, and dependability.
- Ability to communicate effectively on a technical level with customers, across organizational lines, and with all levels of management.
- Must be able to read and interpret reports and make competent decisions related to the lab unit.
- Must communicate effectively in English and read, understand, and convey work instructions and assignments.
- Must be a self-starter who can work with little or no supervision.
- Must be able to prioritize workload efficiently.
- Ability to create a harmonious, efficient, and productive work group to maximize the team's collective abilities.
- Ability to operate radio, CB radio, computer, and other equipment as required.
- Must be able to travel locally to other rail yard operations. • Must be able to work irregular shifts, days/nights, and weekends. Requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. 'On call' status will periodically be required.
Physical requirements:
- Ability to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, ear protection, respirator, etc.
- Must be able to pass a lung function test for respirator use without any restrictions.
- Must be able to wear a respirator for a prolonged period.
- Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, and work from heights.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, and reach around all areas of equipment.
- Lift up to 50 lbs. to waist level and carry 20 yards.
- Ability to use hand tools.
- Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 90 dbs.
- Will work in varied environments (in all weather conditions, heat, cold, wet, humid, dry, and/or dusty conditions).
- Exposure to physical hazards due to proximity to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, electrical current, and exposure to chemicals is present.
- Exposure to oils, fumes, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation may be present.
