About the role

SIRIS is seeking a Construction Museum Specialist to support National Park Service (NPS) projects in Greensboro, North Carolina.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of construction management and museum collections, supporting federally managed cultural environments where precision, compliance, and coordination are critical. You will work closely with project managers, contractors, and Smithsonian Institution program stakeholders to ensure collections-related activities are executed safely and in alignment with project and museum standards.

This position supports an active project with immediate impact and may expand into future Smithsonian or cultural programs based on performance and business needs.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to nationally significant cultural and infrastructure projects while working alongside experienced professionals in both construction and museum environments.

What you'll do
  • Support planning and execution of construction and collections-related activities
  • Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and client stakeholders
  • Prepare and maintain reports, documentation, and project records
  • Monitor project progress and assist in resolving issues
  • Perform collections-related work (inventory, cataloging, documentation, tracking)
  • Prepare condition reports and maintain accurate records
  • Ensure compliance with handling, storage, and preservation protocols
  • Assist with artifact housing and movement using appropriate equipment
  • Maintain tracking systems for reporting and oversight
  • Communicate effectively across internal teams and external partners
Who Will Succeed in This Role
  • Experience in museum, cultural, or federally regulated environments is highly valued
  • Strong understanding of collections handling, documentation, and preservation
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong communicator across technical and non-technical teams
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and compliance
  • Proactive, dependable, and solution-driven
Qualifications
  • Required
    • 3+ years of experience in museum curation, collections management, or related work
    • Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, History, Art, or related field (or equivalent experience)
    • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
  • Preferred
    • Experience with National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution, GSA, or similar
    • Experience supporting construction or infrastructure projects
    • Familiarity with collections databases and documentation systems
    • Certifications such as AAM, ICOM, or conservation training
Work Environment
  • Full-time onsite role in Greensboro, NC
  • Combination of office and active construction site environment
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and safely handle materials

70,000 - 90,000 USD per year(Greensboro, NC)
