Position OverviewThe Laboratory Technician I is an entry-level role responsible for sample login, preservation, storage, preparation, and basic analysis of environmental samples. This position ensures all work complies with EPA methods, NRC Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and quality control standards. The role requires strong attention to detail, organization, and a commitment to accurate data.
This position includes working independently one to two days per week at the Grants Pass satellite office.
Key ResponsibilitiesSample Login- Accurately log samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Follow Chain of Custody, NRC, and client-specific requirements
- Verify or perform sample preservation per SOPs
- Store samples according to required conditions
- Perform analyses following SOPs and approved methods
- Prepare reagents and standards and document in LIMS
- Follow quality control procedures and batching requirements
- Identify and address quality issues
- Create sample batches in LIMS
- Accurately report analytical results
- Communicate with supervisors and team members
- Coordinate with lab and project staff on holding times, rush samples, and special conditions
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Monitor and maintain adequate lab supplies
- Demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, and teamwork
- Maintain a respectful and positive work environment
- High school diploma required
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or related field preferred
- Strong attention to detail and organization
- Time management and multitasking ability
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Basic math skills including fractions, percentages, and unit conversions
- Entry-level position
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, and perform repetitive tasks
- Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds
- Ability to use computers and laboratory equipment
- Vision requirements include close and distance focus
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required
- Primarily indoor laboratory and office setting
