POST Certified Police Officer
The Oak Ridge Police Department maintains an open hiring process for POST
certified police officers, including both Tennessee and out-of-state
certifications. Non-certified individuals are not eligible for these openings
and must apply during the non-certified application process which is posted at https://www.oakridgetn.gov/386/Job-Openings.

The State of Tennessee POST maintains the following requirements for any POST certified applicant with a break in service:
(a)
Beginning
May 1, 2021, certified officers who have had more than a three (3) year break,
break, but less than a seven (7) year break in full-time law enforcement
service shall enroll in the Commission-approved three (3) week Transition
School within six (6) months of returning to full-time employment before their
certification is reactivated. Officers with a seven (7) year or longer break in
full-time law enforcement service shall be required to re-attend a Basic Law
Enforcement Course.
Additional requirements for the POST police officer position:
1. Be a United States citizen
2. Be at least 21 years of age
3. Possess excellent moral character for carrying out law enforcement duties
4. Be free of a criminal conviction record
5. High School diploma/equivalent.
6. Out-of-state POST certifications will be considered. Candidates must obtain Tennessee Certification within six (6) months from date of hire.
7. Must possess a valid State of Tennessee Driver’s license.
8. Must successfully pass Pre-employment and Post-Offer Testing, including a background investigation, drug screen and psychological examination. Failure to pass these will result in revocation of the employment offer.
9. Must pass a post offer pre-employment physical and functional ability exam. Failure to pass these will result in revocation of the employment offer.
10. Tattoos on the face and neck are strictly prohibited.
