About This Position

Description:

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assumes the responsibility for individual and group counseling activities and for the maintenance of program files.
  • Assumes the responsibility for maintaining accurate and confidential records of all participants’ contacts and records progress toward matriculation.
  • Interviews and selects high school students for participation in the program and the development of cultural activities.
  • Completes evaluation of academic, personal, and career needs of participants in the program.
  • Completes Individual Academic Plans (IAP) for assigned students.
  • Conducts and facilitates workshops for participants, parents, school personnel and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinates college visits, field experiences, and summer programming.
  • Participates in in-service training, staff development workshops, conferences, and department meetings.
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports detailing accomplishments, problems encountered, projections, etc.
  • Performs data entry into Blumen case management system.
  • Supervises other personnel in the absence of the program director.
  • Other duties assigned by the Program Director.

Requirements:

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, psychology, social sciences, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university is required. Master's degree is preferred, but not required.

EXPERIENCE

A minimum of one year working in an educational setting teaching, advising, and/or tutoring students from diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be knowledgeable of high school graduation requirements, as well as college admission and financial aid requirements and processes. Must have the ability to supervise work-study students and coordinate schedules as needed. Computer skills should include proficiency in word processing and database applications. The ability to work independently to organize, set priorities, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision is essential. Effective presentation skills are required. Must be able to establish and maintain strong relationships and partnerships with school staff, agency representatives, community members, and program participants. Case management or student services experience is also strongly preferred. Candidates must possess the skills and ability to build strong, supportive relationships with students on their assigned caseload. Additionally, they must be creative, forward-thinking, and self-starting individuals who are fast learners, capable of managing time effectively, and thinking outside the box to develop innovative solutions and approaches. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is strongly preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying work-related items weighing less than 40 pounds, such as books, papers, and presentation materials. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
