About This Position
The Part-Time Public Safety Officer is a part-time position responsible to the Campus Police Lieutenant. This position provides service and information to students, employees and visitors; responsible for enforcing the regulations pertaining to the parking of vehicles on College property; directing traffic; patrolling College property to safeguard buildings and property under the control and jurisdiction of Tyler Junior College.

Required Education/Experience
Physical Requirements
- Provide service to students, employees and visitors
- Write reports
- Check permits on vehicles entering and parked on campus, direct flow of traffic, and parking of cars when needed
- Issue parking permits and parking violation citations when needed
- Patrol buildings and grounds to check for fires, water leaks, potential security and safety hazards, and general building security, reporting all irregularities, emergencies or suspicious activity
- Ensure all personnel entering campus are properly identified; issue visitor badges and maintain a log of all issued badges
- Provide directions to buildings and offices, and answer other general information questions for visitors
- Patrol buildings and grounds on foot or in a vehicle to provide security and prevent crime; write reports on incidents occurring on campus
- Perform other related duties as required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Should have the physical and mental capabilities to properly carry out responsibilities and duties as a Public Safety Officer
- Work requires the ability to make frequent minor decisions and occasional decisions of some significance
- Work is reviewed for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with departmental policy and procedure
Required Education/Experience
- Graduation from high school, vocational school or equivalent
- Must possess a valid driver's license and be eligible to drive a College-owned and/or leased motor vehicle
Physical Requirements
- Duties involve driving, walking, running, standing, stooping, climbing, crouching, pushing, jumping over, pulling, carrying, reaching above head, lifting, lowering, hand-wrist and elbow motion, grasping, and holding
- Exposure to variable weather conditions
- Working on any one of three shifts with varying days off and holidays
- Work involves a degree of hazard
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Will have contact – in person, by email, or by phone – with staff, students, and the general public
- Must exhibit a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students with disabilities
