Retail Sales Associate Lawn & Garden- Part Time at Buchheit Inc – Jackson, Missouri

POSITION TYPE: Part-Time

POSITION SUMMARY:

Sales associates work closely with customers and provide them with product knowledge in terms of features, warranties, special discounts or deals, and any additional information about the product. They should maintain the visual appearance of the store by managing store displays and keep up with trends and competition. Retail sales associates are expected to create and maintain a long-term relationship with the customers in order to achieve sales goals and represent the store in a positive manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Stock, organize, and maintain lawn and garden merchandise, including plants, soils, fertilizers, and outdoor supplies
2. Water and care for plants, ensuring proper maintenance and presentation
3. Greet customers, determine their needs/wants, and recommend merchandise
4. Advise customers on utilization and care of merchandise, as needed.
5. Answer any customer questions or concerns in a prompt and friendly manner
6. Stock and recover merchandise
7. Keep work area clean and organized
8. Operate pallet jacks and forklifts, as needed
9. Ensure proper signage is in place throughout assigned department
10. General use of computer to check prices and inventories
11. Assist with inventory preparation
12. Create special orders, as needed
13. Safety awareness of anything in store that may be hazard to employees or customers
14. Promptly handle any customer complaints, questions, or concerns in a professional and friendly manner
15. Bring in carts from outside
16. Additional duties, as assigned

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Interest in lawn and garden, products, plants, and outdoor work preferred
2. Willingness to learn basic plant care, product knowledge, and seasonal tasks is required
3. Must have a friendly and outgoing personality
4. Must possess strong work ethic and interpersonal skills
5. Basic computer skills
6. Must be able to work a flexible schedule
7. Ability to:
   • Effectively communicate with customers, in-person and over the phone
   • Multi-Task
   • Maintain a pleasant and calm disposition under stress
   • Understand and follow oral and written instructions
   • Demonstrate initiative and effective problem-solving skills within the scope of the position
