Job Summary:

The Clinical Licensed Crisis Counselor provides rapid, clinically sound crisis assessments, stabilization interventions, and short-term therapeutic services to individuals experiencing behavioral health emergencies. The position is responsible for diagnosing mental disorders, determining appropriate levels of care, developing crisis stabilization and safety plans, collaborating with law enforcement and hospitals, and ensuring continuity of care through appropriate referrals. Services may occur in-office, via telehealth, in community settings, or as part of a mobile crisis response team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessment and Evaluation: Gather and document all relevant information regarding a client, via diagnostic (biopsychosocial assessment) interview to produce an accurate diagnosis, presenting problem and challenges that will be the medically necessary focus for treatment services and interventions. The evaluation includes an assessment of areas of need in life domains that without remediation or assistance will serve as a barrier to recovery for the client.
  • Required to follow dress code policies of any alternative work locations, including but not limited to schools, jails, courts, detention centers, other community partners, etc.
  • Treatment Planning: The client, in partnership with designated and relevant participants, will create a comprehensive plan of treatment, which addresses and lists medically necessary treatment interventions in response to treatment goals and objectives necessary to remediate assessed mental disorders and related concerns. The QMHP will provide referrals for center and community resources as needed. The QMHP will assess the need for on-going treatment, utilizing measurement-based tools, and will review and update the plan with the client every 90 days.
  • Conduct crisis assessments to determine mental status, risk level, and stabilization needs.
  • Utilize evidence-based tools to assess suicide/homicide risk, psychosis, and functional impairment.
  • Make clinically sound level-of-care determinations.
  • Provide crisis intervention, brief therapy, and stabilization services in person, telehealth, or community-based settings.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, hospitals, EMS, and community partners.
  • Determine the need for voluntary/involuntary hospitalization under Kansas statutes.
  • Create safety plans and follow-up recommendations.
  • Document all services in the EHR.
  • Participate in mobile crisis rotation and on-call response.
  • Provide follow-up care coordination.
  • Maintain compliance with all policies, regulations, and confidentiality standards.
  • Complete utilization reviews and CEUs as required.
  • Therapy: Conduct treatment interventions directly with the client. This includes but is not limited to individual therapy, group psychotherapy, and family therapy. Services may be provided in the office setting or in community settings based on the individual’s needs. Continuously assess client progress and response to treatment interventions and activities. Complete documentation for each service unit provided within 72 hours of service provision.
  • Discharge Planning: Initiate initial evaluation of a plan of discharge. Assess with the client what medical and mental conditions will be resolved; what constitutes resolution and the goals and objectives that must be met to serve as criteria for discharge from treatment. Continuously assess client progress toward this goal.
  • Document in the medical record of progress toward this goal and at discharge, complete a written summary of treatment activities, including the client’s progress, prognosis and recommendations for follow up including any referrals made.
  • Utilization Management: Monitor the utilization of treatment resources on behalf of clients. Ensure that treatment resources are being effectively utilized, appropriate, and medically necessary. Participate in center utilization review activities and peer review. This includes but is not limited to reviewing the medical records of clients assigned to other teams to monitor appropriate treatment and providing feedback.
  • Crisis and Emergency Services: Respond as needed and consult with the crisis team, other center personnel, or other community providers regarding the crisis or emergency needs of assigned clients.
  • Medical Records: Responsible for the complete and timely written record of all treatment activities, services and interventions conducted for each client. This includes review of related documentation by service providers, as needed, to ensure adherence to treatment plans. Will complete demographic and other updates in the electronic health record as needed. Comply with documentation and NOMS collection as required by the CCBHC.
  • Student Development: Shadow, mentor and supervise practicum for students or interns as assigned by supervisor. Complete all required documentation required by each individual university.
  • Productivity and Documentation: Required to meet department productivity and documentation Standards.
  • Demonstrated Support of the Center Mission, Goals and Objectives: Willingness to engage with center management, peers, and community partners as well as clients in a manner that consistently communicates cooperation and positive regard will be required to enter and retain the QMHP position.
  • Must demonstrate competency in suicide risk assessment, DSM-5-TR diagnostic formulation, crisis intervention, and safety planning.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Staff will meet competency expectations, including integration of evidence-based practices and required certifications by successfully completing the following training which will be conducted in all the following manners, but limited to in-person training, online training, webinars, seminars, workshops, and self-directed training. All training, certifications, and competencies will be documented by completion of certificates when available and maintained by the Training department.
  • Obtain Certification for Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) training. MOAB is an in-depth training program that teaches individuals how to recognize, reduce, and manage violent and aggressive behavior. Training is provided.
  • MOAB training requires controlled movements, body positioning, and the ability to perform physical holds and restraint techniques.
  • The focus of MOAB training is to use techniques that can be effectively applied by employees of varying physical capabilities while minimizing potential harm to both the individual being restrained and the trained themselves.
  • First Aid CPR Training.
Requirements:

Requirements:

  • The Clinically Licensed Crisis Counselor must be licensed in the State of Kansas by the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (BSRB) to independently diagnose and treat mental disorders. Acceptable licenses include LSCSW, LCPC, LCMFT, or LCP.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Pass and complete a TB Screen Test and Medical Evaluation.
  • Pass pre-employment background checks.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with hospitals, law enforcement, EMS, and internal departments.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and carry 25-50 pounds occasionally.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking may be required.
  • Frequently bending, stooping, or kneeling to assist clients or perform tasks.
  • Ability to reach overhead and handle objects or equipment.
  • Be able to get on the floor and rise without assistance.
