Position Description: ABOUT THE SAN ANTONIO BOTANICAL GARDEN

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will require communication and teamwork, in addition to independent work onsite and offsite from the Garden. The Shuttle Access Program prioritizes serving community partner groups in Bexar County and surrounding counties. This position is currently scheduled for 3 days per week. This position is expected to work approximately 25 hours per week. Schedule will need to be flexible and could include weekends and holidays based on the success of the program.

COMPETENCIES/SKILLS
Specifically, the Shuttle Bus Driver will have the responsibility for the following activities:
  • Assist Operations team by informing of any issues with the shuttle bus.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of interior and exterior of the shuttle bus and operate as required per Education Department.
  • Enforce SABOT policies and procedures for shuttle bus.
  • Ensure the safety of each passenger before and during transportation.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Experience: 5-10 yrs. preferred experience driving oversized vehicles and passengers, and experience maintaining buses.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain, a valid CDL B Texas driver's license with Passenger endorsement. NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon maintaining required license.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., climb steps, bend, kneel, and squat.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Equipment used for this job is (but not limited to) shuttle bus, wheelchair lift and ratchet straps.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to work/ drive with staff, volunteers and the general public to include children on a commercial vehicle.
  • Knowledge of passenger vehicles and related equipment such as wheelchair lift, emergency signage kits and Texas motor vehicle laws.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.
  • The ability to multi-task, set priorities, drive in heavily congested areas with limited space and maintain a positive attitude at times of increased workload and stress is crucial.
  • Good organizational skills are required, with strong attention to detail in all tasks.
  • Successful candidates will also have the ability to work productively and positively in a team-oriented environment and to provide quality customer service in a professional manner. Flexibility to work occasional weekends may be required.

Working Conditions
  1. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, on and off of passenger bus.
  2. Pick up locations will be throughout the interior of the City of San Antonio and surrounding counties.
  3. Expected to perform under minimum supervision and act independently within the scope of normal duties and responsibilities. Difficult or unique situations are referred to the supervisor.
  4. As an ambassador of the San Antonio Botanical Garden, you will be expected to provide excellent customer service and display a professional attitude at all times.
  5. On occasion, required to work extended hours.
  6. Must have dependable transportation.
