Job Description

Mobile Application Engineering Manager

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Mobile Application Engineering Manager based in the United States.

This is a senior engineering leadership role focused on building reliable, mission-critical mobile applications that support first responders.
You will lead and grow a team of mobile engineers while providing technical direction across iOS, Android, and hybrid mobile technologies.
The role combines hands-on technical expertise with people management, architecture, roadmap planning, and cross-functional collaboration.
You will partner closely with Product and other stakeholders to translate customer needs into a clear development roadmap and high-quality releases.
A key focus will be building scalable, secure, offline-first mobile experiences where reliability and performance are essential.
You will also establish engineering best practices, mentor technical talent, and guide strategic decisions around native versus cross-platform development.
This fully remote opportunity is designed for an experienced engineering leader who wants to make a meaningful impact through technology.

Accountabilities
  • Lead, manage, mentor, and develop a team of mobile engineers, including conducting 1:1s, supporting career development, managing performance, hiring talent, and building a strong engineering culture.
  • Set technical direction for mobile application development across iOS, Android, and hybrid or cross-platform technologies.
  • Partner with Product and Product Management to translate customer and business requirements into actionable roadmaps and ensure the team delivers against agreed priorities.
  • Lead the development of mission-critical, offline-first mobile applications with strong standards for reliability, security, performance, and usability.
  • Establish and reinforce engineering best practices, architectural standards, development processes, and quality expectations.
  • Review technical designs and guide architectural decisions involving MVVM, Clean Architecture, REST APIs, data synchronization, authentication, WebViews, and related mobile technologies.
  • Support production issue management by using tools such as Instabug and Firebase to help triage incidents, identify root causes, and coach engineers through customer-impacting problems.
  • Guide the team on debugging, performance optimization, memory management, and other complex technical challenges.
  • Evaluate native, hybrid, and cross-platform approaches, including technologies such as Flutter, React Native, .NET MAUI, and Ionic/Capacitor, to inform build-versus-buy and technology strategy decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to communicate progress, resolve dependencies, and ensure mobile initiatives align with broader organizational objectives.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience developing native iOS applications using Swift, including at least 3 years in a formal engineering management or technical leadership position directly managing mobile engineers.
  • Exposure to Android development, including Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, or Android architecture components, with the ability to guide mixed iOS/Android teams and evaluate cross-platform trade-offs.
  • Proven experience leading teams responsible for mission-critical, offline-first mobile applications.
  • Strong knowledge of Swift 5.x, SwiftUI, UIKit, CoreData, CoreLocation, Background Tasks, Xcode, Git, Figma, and TestFlight.
  • Experience with CI/CD and mobile automation tools such as Fastlane and GitHub Actions or comparable platforms.
  • Working knowledge of RESTful services, JSON, authentication and authorization, data synchronization, and WebViews.
  • Strong understanding of mobile architecture patterns, particularly MVVM and Clean Architecture, with the ability to review designs and establish technical direction.
  • Experience with automated testing, including XCTest and automated UI testing frameworks.
  • Experience with hybrid or cross-platform frameworks such as Flutter, React Native, .NET MAUI, or Ionic/Capacitor.
  • Strong debugging, performance optimization, and memory-management skills, combined with the ability to mentor engineers through technically challenging problems.
  • Demonstrated success hiring and developing engineering talent, establishing best practices, and leading mobile development initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment while maintaining strong collaboration across the organization.
  • Must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer; employment visa sponsorship or transfer of sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a criminal background check and required U.S. work authorization verification.
Benefits:
  • $200,000 annual salary as the stated compensation for the role.
  • Fully remote position for candidates based in the United States.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for eligible employees.
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA) options.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Flexible paid time off.
  • Technology stipend to support remote work.
  • Opportunities for career growth and professional advancement.
  • Minimal travel expectations.
  • Reasonable accommodations available during the hiring process and employment for qualified individuals.
  • Inclusive workplace focused on respect, diversity, acceptance, and equal opportunity.
