POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the installation, commissioning, calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of instrumentation and electrical systems on automated pressure control packages, including pneumatic, hydraulic, and electric-actuated gate valve assemblies. Works in teams or independently in the field to ensure safe, reliable operation of wellhead and production equipment in compliance with company standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Automation & Control Systems
- Install, configure, and maintain PLC- and RTU-based automation systems on pressure control packages
- Commission automated gate valve packages including actuator wiring, limit switch setup
- Program and modify logic in PLCs (Automation Direct, or equivalent) for ESD, pressure regulation, and sequencing functions
- Perform loop checks and functional testing on pressure transmitters, flow meters, and level instrumentation
- Configure and troubleshoot SCADA/HMI communications (Modbus, DNP3, or proprietary protocols)
Gate Valve & Actuator Operations
- Inspect, test, and maintain pneumatic and electric gate valve actuators, including solenoid valves, positioners, and limit switches
- Coordinate with operations to exercise and stroke-test gate valves on a scheduled basis
- Diagnose and repair actuator failures; replace packing, seals, and worn components in accordance with API and OEM specifications
- Ensure proper fail-safe orientation and response on all automated ESD gate valves
- Document valve condition, torque values, and test results in the CMMS or field ticket system
Instrumentation & Calibration
- Replace failed instruments and ensure correct range, output signal, and process connection
Electrical Systems
- Install and maintain 480VAC, 120VAC, and 24VDC control circuits for automation packages and wellhead equipment
- Perform conduit installation, cable pulling, and termination
- Troubleshoot field wiring issues using multimeters
Safety & Compliance
- Execute all work under applicable hot work, LOTO, H2S, and confined space permit requirements
- Participate in pre-job safety meetings, job hazard analyses, and MOC reviews for automation-related changes
- Maintain compliance with NEC, NFPA 70, API RP 500/505, and company HSSE standards
- Accurately complete field tickets, equipment logs, and as-built documentation

WORKING CONDITIONS
Outdoor field work in variable weather conditions; exposure to wellsite hazards including H2S, hydrocarbons, and high-pressure systems. Requires lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing, and working at heights. May require overnight travel to remote locations. On-call availability may be required depending on assigned rotation.
