Associate General Counsel

About Pillar Income Asset Management, Inc.

Pillar Income Asset Management, Inc. ("Pillar") is a Dallas-based real estate investment, development, and management company overseeing a portfolio exceeding $2.5 billion in real estate assets. Through its affiliated entities, Pillar manages more than 65 properties, including over 8,700 multifamily units, 1.9 million square feet of commercial space, and more than 4,500 acres of land holdings throughout the Southern United States.

In addition to asset and property management services, Pillar provides financing and capital management support to its affiliated companies, including transactions involving HUD, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, CMBS, and other debt financing structures.

Position Summary

The Associate General Counsel will provide legal support across a broad range of real estate acquisitions, dispositions, financing, development, leasing, litigation management, and corporate governance matters. This position will work closely with executive leadership and operational teams to support the company's real estate portfolio and strategic initiatives, while helping oversee the Company's legal function and external legal resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and implementing legal strategies that support the Company's business objectives.
  • Manage relationships with outside counsel and coordinate legal services as needed.
  • Supervise and direct the work of legal support staff, including paralegals.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate purchase and sale agreements, deeds, easements, and other real estate conveyance documents.
  • Prepare, review, and negotiate loan, financing, and related transaction documents.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate commercial leases, property management agreements, and other contracts.
  • Prepare and review organizational and ownership documents, including limited liability company agreements, partnership agreements, assignments and transfers of ownership interests, and profit participation agreements.
  • Review title commitments, title insurance policies, surveys, and related due diligence materials.
  • Assist with title curative matters and coordinate resolution of title-related issues.
  • Prepare, review, and coordinate mechanics' and materialmen's liens, lien releases, and related documentation.
  • Draft and negotiate development, construction, and general contractor agreements.
  • Manage litigation matters and dispute resolution activities in coordination with outside counsel.
  • Conduct legal research and provide guidance on real estate, corporate, contractual, and regulatory matters.
  • Provide legal support for special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license and good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant legal experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or combination thereof.
  • Significant experience with multifamily and commercial real estate transactions.
  • Experience handling acquisitions, dispositions, financing, leasing, development, and corporate governance matters.
  • Prior experience supervising legal support staff or managing outside counsel relationships preferred.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Professional presence with the ability to interact effectively with executive leadership, investors, lenders, business partners, and outside counsel.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal document management systems.
