Service & Support Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Service & Support Engineer based in the United States.

This role offers the opportunity to provide hands-on technical service and support for advanced industrial additive manufacturing equipment.
You will work directly with customers to install, commission, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair sophisticated mechanical and electrical systems.
The position combines field engineering, customer service, technical problem-solving, and equipment expertise in a highly practical environment.
You will play a key role in keeping customer operations running efficiently while delivering a high standard of technical support and responsiveness.
The role involves close collaboration with customers, internal technical teams, solution centers, and service organizations.
It is well suited to a self-motivated engineer who enjoys working independently, solving complex equipment issues, and learning new technologies.
This is a home-office-based position with extensive domestic travel, typically ranging from 75% to as much as 90%.

Accountabilities:
  • Support customers with site preparation requirements and ensure locations are ready for equipment installation.
  • Install, commission, and support new additive manufacturing machines and associated ancillary equipment at customer sites.
  • Deliver customer training covering equipment safety, operation, maintenance, and best practices.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance activities and complete recommended repairs, including the replacement of wear and spare parts.
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults, troubleshoot equipment failures, identify root causes, and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical documentation to support installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Coordinate required spare parts, tools, equipment, and other resources before service interventions to ensure efficient resolution.
  • Provide technical support to customers and internal teams by phone and email, including troubleshooting assistance and parts ordering.
  • Support solution center activities involving equipment testing, operation, and customer acceptance.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed service, time, expense, and customer reports following field activities.
  • Manage travel arrangements efficiently, balancing cost, timing, and customer requirements.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships through clear communication, professionalism, responsiveness, and effective conflict management.
  • Work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while managing multiple priorities and service assignments.
  • Travel extensively throughout the United States, with domestic travel expected to reach up to 90%.
Requirements:
  • Associate degree or technical college qualification in mechanical, electrical, automation engineering, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Up to 2 years of relevant field service experience in additive manufacturing, CNC machining, or a comparable industrial equipment environment.
  • Experience with additive manufacturing equipment or similar advanced industrial technologies is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, electronic, and engineering principles.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic capabilities, particularly when working with complex technical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic schematics, mechanical assembly drawings, and technical instructions.
  • Hands-on experience assembling or servicing mid-sized capital equipment such as CNC machinery, manufacturing cells, robotics, extrusion equipment, or comparable systems.
  • Experience working with both low- and high-voltage electrical equipment and electrical measurement instruments.
  • Familiarity with GD&T, mathematical concepts such as trigonometry, and industrial technology applications is advantageous.
  • Strong computer skills, including hardware and software used for machine-specific applications, with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong time-management, organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of accuracy and safety.
  • A hands-on mindset and genuine interest in learning, experimenting, and developing practical technical solutions.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to undertake extensive domestic travel.
  • Must meet applicable U.S. eligibility requirements for access to ITAR-controlled technical data.
