Senior Category Manager - Procurement in Troy, Michigan at Specialized Packaging Group

Location: Flexible / Troy, MI

Job Overview: As a Senior Category Manager, you will be responsible for procurement activities for across the company’s operations in Mexico, the US, and Canada. You will develop sourcing strategies, negotiate contracts, and ensure efficient and cost-effective procurement, including but not limited to Plastic Corrugated, Logistics, Real Estate, and assisting with outsourced production quoting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement category strategies for spend, ensuring alignment with the company’s overall procurement strategy and business objectives.
• Lead the strategic sourcing initiatives including market analysis, RFQ processes, supplier selection, contract negotiation, and supplier management.
• Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements, driving efficiencies and best practices across procurement operations.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including finance, operations, legal, and other departments, to ensure procurement activities meet business requirements.
• Manage supplier relationships, ensuring performance meets or exceeds agreed-upon terms and service levels, while mitigating risks associated with the supply chain.
• Conduct regular market research and maintain an up-to-date understanding of industry trends and supplier capabilities to ensure the company stays ahead of the curve.
• Ensure compliance with corporate policies and governance, ensuring ethical standards are maintained in all procurement activities.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field (Master’s or MBA preferred).
• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in procurement or category management.
• Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Knoweledge of procurement best practices, sourcing strategies, supplier management, and contract negotiation.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and build strong relationships with suppliers.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Experience with identifying and qualifying new suppliers.
• Knowledge of local regulations and compliance requirements across Mexico, the US, and Canada.
• Familiarity with procurement software and tools (e.g., SAGE, Amtech).
