Job Description

Global Payroll Manager

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Global Payroll Manager based in United States.

The Global Payroll Manager will oversee payroll operations across a complex, multi-entity organization, with direct ownership of U.S. and Canada payroll and oversight of international payroll delivered through global vendors. This role is responsible for ensuring payroll is accurate, timely, compliant, and scalable across multiple jurisdictions and payroll cycles. You will partner closely with People, Finance, HRIS teams, and external providers to maintain data integrity and deliver a seamless employee experience. The role also provides an opportunity to strengthen processes, improve vendor performance, and support payroll expansion into new countries and states. Success in this position requires strong analytical judgment, operational discipline, and the ability to manage sensitive information with discretion. This is a fully remote role within the United States, with occasional planned travel.

Accountabilities:
  • Own end-to-end payroll processing for designated entities, including semi-monthly and bi-weekly payroll cycles, ensuring accurate and timely payment of salaries, wages, bonuses, commissions, benefits, deductions, and tax withholdings.
  • Validate, reconcile, and audit payroll data, proactively identifying discrepancies and coordinating timely resolution while partnering with People and Finance teams on payroll inputs, reporting, and downstream impacts.
  • Lead year-end payroll activities, including quarterly and annual tax reconciliations, W-2 preparation, and related filings, while ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and international payroll requirements.
  • Manage payroll tax setup and registrations across jurisdictions, support new state and country expansions, monitor regulatory changes, and coordinate with internal stakeholders and external agencies to resolve tax and compliance matters.
  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for payroll-related questions involving compensation, taxes, time tracking, and other payroll matters, handling complex or escalated issues with accuracy, discretion, and sound judgment.
  • Oversee global payroll vendors and hold providers accountable for service quality, accuracy, compliance, issue resolution, and continuous improvement across domestic and international payroll operations.
  • Partner with HRIS and Finance teams to maintain data integrity and effective integrations between systems, while preparing and analyzing payroll reports that support operational and financial decision-making.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve payroll accuracy, efficiency, consistency, and scalability, including process standardization, policy updates, system enhancements, automation, and regulatory initiatives.
  • Contribute to broader People and Finance projects where payroll expertise is required, helping evolve payroll operations as the organization grows.
Requirements:
  • 7+ years of progressive payroll experience, including ownership of end-to-end payroll processing in a complex environment.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. payroll regulations, tax laws, and compliance requirements, with familiarity with international payroll and vendor-supported global payroll models.
  • Experience supporting multi-entity and/or multi-state payroll environments; experience with Canadian payroll is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with or overseeing global payroll vendors or international payroll operations, ideally within a high-growth or evolving organization.
  • Strong experience with payroll systems and HRIS platforms such as Workday, including reporting, data validation, reconciliations, and system integrations.
  • Advanced Excel skills and the ability to work confidently with large datasets, complex reconciliations, and detailed payroll reporting.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple payroll cycles, deadlines, and competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with People, Finance, HRIS teams, external vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential payroll information with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience, is preferred.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification or a similar payroll credential is preferred.
Benefits:
  • Salary: $100,000–$130,000 USD per year for full-time team members.
  • Remote work: Fully remote position within the United States, with 100% of work performed remotely.
  • Time off: Paid Time Off (PTO) and company-paid holidays.
  • Healthcare: 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance plan options.
  • Health accounts: Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), including a bi-weekly employer HSA contribution.
  • Disability coverage: Company-paid Short-Term Disability and Long-Term Disability coverage.
  • Retirement: 401(k) retirement plan with company matching.
  • Travel: Less than 10% travel, with occasional planned travel as required by the role.
